When people say that college is a time of self discovery, they aren't lying. I've probably grown as a person more in the past two years then I did in all four years of high school. The positive changes I've seen in myself have come about under the pressure and stress of my future looming ahead. They've made me stronger and I'm grateful for the insight I've gained.
1. I've Realized Relationships Matter More
In the midst of trying to study for all of my tests and get all of my work done, I've realized the people around me really are a constant that keep me motivated. Pouring into them is much more important than any big test I have coming up. If someone needs me they are a priority.
2. You Have To Live In The Moment
You can't get so caught up in working to reach your future goals that you forget to live in the now. Doing good in school is extremely important, but you also can't pass up every opportunity to go out with friends. You have to find a balance.
3. But, Also Keep Your Eyes On The Long Term Goal
With that being said, you also can't get so caught up in the now that you forget what you're working towards. You also can't feel down because you don't think what you're doing right now matters. It can feel monotonous an purposeless to eat, study, socialize, sleep, and repeat. In the long run you're going to finish your education and have the career that you've been working so hard to get to.
4. Sometimes You Have To Be Alone
It can be really difficult to find alone time in college. You feel like you're always around people which can be great if you're in extrovert. We all need our alone time to recharge. I've learned just how important it is to set some time aside to truly be alone. It's great to pour time into your studies and others, but you also need time to pour into yourself.
5. I Know I'm Not Capable of Doing This All on My Own
Probably the biggest lesson I've learned in college is how incapable I am of handling all this stress on my own. You're always told to lean on God in times of need, but you never really realize how much you need Him until you experience the vulnerable feeling of truly being incapable. Through college I have definitely had to lean on Him for support and I have learned the benefits of giving it up to God.
