1. Sharing a space with someone isn’t always easy… but it sure is fun
Going from having my own bedroom and bathroom to sharing my space with another girl and brushing my teeth next to a dozen girls was a huge change. Some days, it feels overwhelming. Yet, it soon becomes one of the perks of college. In the first few weeks when you still haven’t met anyone, your floor-mates and roommate are the people who keep you feeling connected and loved. Without them, how would we ever get through those scary first weeks?
2. Independence can be lonely, but wonderful
Walking alone to class or eating alone at your sorority house, nothing about being on your own is comfortable. At first, you feel like all eyes are on you and that everyone is judging your every move. Yet, you’ll begin to enjoy the feeling of independence. You’ll realize you’re way more capable than you ever thought. You’ve got this! Go you!
3. Your most called person? Your mom.
It’s the end of those morning car rides to school, dancing to all style of music. No more chats at dinner about the day and no more crawling into bed together when you need to cuddle. Your friends are your new moms away from mom, but sometimes only the real deal can pick you up when you’re down. Place aside time to call her and make sure you get home every once in a while. She’s one of the most important people in your life; cherish her!
4. Feeling awkward is just part of being a freshman
College is all about meeting new people and branching out. As awkward as it is asking to have lunch with someone you don’t know, it’s the best way to meet people. You have to put yourself out there because everyone feels awkward-it’s freshman year! Just remember, no matter how weird it feels to you, it makes the other person feel appreciated and liked.
5. You get to write your own story
You’re finally on your own. You can join whatever clubs you want, talk to any people you want, go out/stay in as much as you want. Everything is up to YOU. This is the first time in your life that you are writing your story-so enjoy it! Try everything and be authentic because the best story is one that is honest and true.
