Whether you're one who avidly searches for new music on spotify, or if you just want something to vibe to while you're studying, look no further! I've got some indie artists that you might just fall in love with.

1. Courtney Barnett

Courtney Barnett is bringing life back to rock music with great lyricism and guitar work. She released her debut album Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit in 2015 and it was met with critical acclaim, some arguing that it was one of the best albums of the year. She has this great indie vibe and has interesting, deep lyrics that she delivers in an addictive deadpan that lightens some of the darker themes in her music. Her music is fun when you need something upbeat, but also deep if you want something to ponder. Check her out!

Songs to start with: "Elevator Operator," Depreston," and "Nobody Really Cares if You Don't Go to the Party."

2. Beirut

Beirut is a band that's been in the indie folk/rock scene for quite a while, having their debut album Gulag Orkestar in 2006. Their earlier albums have these wonderful, full songs that are highly inspired by folk music in the Balkan region of Europe. (I'm all about Gulag Orkestar's sound. Listen to it!) Their albums have a really European vibe anyway that I love. I could imagine going on a European vacation with them playing throughout the trip. Their later albums have taken a bit of a departure from their original sound, but they still incorporate a lot of interesting elements into their music that make them unique and great to listen to.

Songs to start with: "Postcards From Italy," "No No No," and "Gibraltar."

3. Julien Baker

Man, does Julien Baker make some impactful music. On her only album, Sprained Ankle, she sings almost hauntingly over a solo electric guitar with a voice that pierces your soul. Her music pretty heavy, being so well written and introspective. She wrestles with sadness and regret, but also touches on redemption and growth despite her struggles. She may not be something to throw on all the time, but you've gotta respect her. She's a killer musician and songwriter.

Songs to start with: "Everybody Does," "Something," and "Rejoice."

4. Gallant

You may have heard of Gallant by now because he's been making major waves and was recently on tour with Sufjan Stevens (probably my favorite artist ever). Maybe he's not even indie at this point. Regardless, he's had an EP, Zebra, and his debut album, Ology, and is already proving just how incredible he is. Along with The Weeknd, he's bringing back R&B with a vengeance. He has a killer voice—no seriously, wait until you hear his falsetto. He's a masterful lyricist as well and a wonderful performer. You can quote me on saying that he's only going to continue getting bigger and bigger.

Songs to start with: "Talking to Myself," "Skipping Stones ft. Jhene Aiko," and "Weight in Gold."

5. Astrid S

So, Astrid S is more on the pop-side of things, but not everyone knows about her, so she's still pretty indie in my eyes. Anyways, she is so talented and has an absolutely angelic voice, especially if you watch her live studio sessions. She's originally from Norway and has been slowly but surely making a huge impact here in the states. She's a talented writer and instrumentalist from what I know and she writes some pretty personal songs. At the very least, her music can be addictive. Give her a fair listen and you'll find something you like.

Songs to start with: "Hurts So Good," "Running Out," and "Jump."

Now, quick, get on Spotify or Youtube and listen to these guys! Hope you find something you enjoy.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
