We could all go for seconds at a summer barbecue, but hitting the pool afterward seems like a bad idea. Seems ironic that we would traditionally serve the greasiest food at a summer party when we are all trying to shed some pounds. Luckily, there are ways to divert our attention to from the filling foods. Here are some recipe ideas to ditch the calories while not disappointing your taste buds.
1. Teriyaki Pineapple Salad
Salads are usually a pretty safe bet if you don’t want the unnecessary bloating by the poolside. Spicing it up is the perfect way to turn any old salad into a vibrant salad. Start by sautéing pineapple pieces for a few minutes in honey and teriyaki sauce. Add that into a bowl of spinach, arugula, and onions. Sprinkle a little pepper on top and you have a light weight healthy salad that doesn’t make you feel like you gained twenty pounds.
2. Use Refreshing Fruits
After gaining some inspiration from magazines and of course, Pinterest. I saw an increasing amount of recipes utilizing fresh fruit. Converting them into icy refreshing treats seemed to be popular. Using popsicle molds, you can put your own spin on it. Cut up your favorite fruit and use coconut water, coconut or almond milk, or even water, to make your own healthy sweets.
3. Avocado Egg Toast
Nothing says protein and energy like avocados and eggs. Start off with a piece of wheat toast, spread some avocado, and top with a cooked egg. Sprinkling pepper and a bit of honey add that extra boost to keep you full and give you energy until lunch.
4. Fruit Infused Water
Making your own fruity drinks without the added sugar is a great way to replenish your energy after being in the sun all day. Using fruits like strawberries, blueberries, or pineapples, add flavor to water while still maintaining a healthy balance.
5. Summer Sangria
Sangria is a refreshing summer drink that you can sip by the pool, if you’re old enough of course. Start with a crispy white wine of your choosing, add a flavored carbonated water and slice fruit and you’re good to go.
