A good amount of people from Fort Wayne, IN venture down south for spring break, but some can’t afford it. Money may be a little tighter or you may not be able to get a complete week off work. Either way if you are having a stay-cation this spring break, there are plenty of fun things to do right at home.

1. Komets Hockey

As early as most schools Spring Breaks are going to a Komets hockey game is a really fun thing to do. You have attractive men, fights, over priced beer and pretzels, cotton candy, and Icey. Something for everyone of all ages to enjoy regardless on if you genuinely enjoy hockey, which shame on you if you don’t, or if you just want a place other than someone’s house to hang out for the night.

2. SHOPPING

Fort Wayne has two very nice malls. They have something for everyone, even if you don’t like shopping (talking to the guys), there are still places to go. The have restaurants and video game stores, build-a-bear and jungle gyms, and so many clothing stores. Anyone can spend the majority of there day(s), and paycheck, in there.

3. Movies!

Almost every part of town there is some form of a movie theater. There is the small Coventry 13 theater so you can watch a movie that’s been out for a while or re-watch it. There is at least one small theater where you can have a sit down dinner and watch a movie as well. If those two don’t work for you there are three more Carmike movie theaters that offer the newest releases, one of them also has reclining chairs. Going to the movies can be something to do like two or three times a break especially with all the new releases.

4. Desserts…Desserts and more Dessert

Fort Wayne has some pretty awesome places for dessert. Yummi Bunni is a new addition to the Fort, but is so creative and awesome that it’s a perfect place to go hang out at enjoy a donut ice cream sandwich. If you want to be a little healthier there is Yo Yo’s and that is a pretty awesome frozen yogurt place which kids with time to kill would love because of all the different toppings they can put on. If you don’t want anything cold at all Cookie Cottage is one of the best places to get fresh, soft, super tasty cookies. Another place is DeBrand. They have really good hot chocolate, and all these different types of chocolate in general. Its such an awesome place to relax and grab dessert after a long day of let’s say, shopping. Also if you want to be really brave you can make an entire day out of it and dessert-hop around town to all these different places.

5. Its for Adults too.

There are several things that some may consider “childish” for adults to do, but in all reality anyone of just about any age can do them. One of the first things that comes to mind is Crazy Pinz. It’s extremely fun, has an arcade and jungle gym, and has a bar area for the adults, so even if you don’t like bowling all that much there are more things to do. There are three different places to go laser tagging in Fort Wayne. My favorite is Laser X right by Glenbrook. You can play for a little or a long time and go against people of a variety of ages. Going laser tagging is just a really good time. Also there is a place where you can go indoor go-carting, I haven’t tried it, but it sounds like so much fun! These are a couple of active yet fun ways to pass the time this spring break.

So even if you can’t afford to go to Florida or Mexico or something warm this spring break there are plenty of ways to pass the time here in Fort Wayne.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
