I recently found out that I am lactose intolerant. After 20 years of eating way too much cheese, and during my freshman year when I ate a large queso about three times a week, I officially have called it quits with dairy.
Although this has been one of the hardest things I've ever had to do, I've actually found out eating dairy free isn't all that bad (except for when I want mac 'n cheese, which is all the time), and there are some amazing food products out there that help when you're craving something that usually has dairy in it. Here are my five favorite dairy free products:
1. So Delicious Coconut Milk Creamer
I honestly like this creamer is better than half and half or any other kind I've ever tried. I think I would use this creamer even if I wasn't lactose intolerant.
2. Silk Original Unsweetened Almond Milk
I never really drank milk, but when I've needed milk for a recipe, I replaced it with almond milk and don't taste a difference at all. Just make sure if you're using it for a replacement that you get the original unsweetened! My roommate had a bad experience with my vanilla almond milk.
3. So Delicious Mint Chip Frozen Dessert
I've honestly never liked mint ice cream, but I love this coconut milk-based mint chip frozen dessert. So Delicious is a more common brand to find in the store and that's why I think I like a lot of its products. I've also heard that Mr. Dewie's brand frozen dessert is really good, but I can't find that without going to a big city.
4. Non-Dairy Spread
Trader Joe's is the best place in the world so of course they have some great dairy-free products. This cream cheese substitute is actually great. It's amazing how little a difference you can tell when things don't have dairy in them. I also like this product because it's inexpensive.
5. Earth Balance Mac & Cheese
Honestly, nothing will compare to a cheesy bowl of mac
