1. Downtown Richmond Grand Illumination
While the city officially flipped the switch Friday night, the downtown lights and festive decorations will be around through Christmas so grab the family and bundle up for some free fun!
2. The Jefferson Hotel
While this historic hotel is beautiful year round, you won't want to miss its beautifully decorated lobby complete with a massive tree and Santa Claus figurines from around the world. The kids are bound to love the handcrafted gingerbread creation of Santa's sleigh featuring hundreds of pounds of real candy. Have lunch at one of the hotel cafe's or enjoy a formal tea if you can snag a reservation.
3. Light Up the Tracks- Ashland
Enjoy a stroll down the historic streets of Ashland as the town lights up with Christmas cheer. Businesses and homes for a mile-long strip along the railroad tracks will stay decorated and lit up through Christmas. The event is known as the "Mile-long Christmas Card." 4. Tacky Light Tour
The Richmond Times-Dispatch puts out an excellent detailed list and maps to follow and see the tackiest and most elaborate Christmas displays Richmond has to offer. 5. Christmastown at Busch Gardens
The popular theme park in Williamsburg re-opens each year for Christmas activities from November to early January. Bring your family and check out the rides, shows and literally millions of lights on display in this magical winter wonderland!
