5 Fall TV Shows Returning In September
The Penny Hoarder

We are now officially in September and many of our favorite shows are returning this month. I am eagerly awaiting numerous season premieres this fall and perhaps you’ll find a new favorite show to watch in this list. Now you can properly set your DVR and mark your calendars so you don’t miss any of the action as we begin to count down the days. Here are 5 of my favorite shows that are returning this month.

1. “Blindspot” - Wednesday, Sept. 14 (10 PM, NBC)

With breakout star Jaimie Alexander (whom you may recognize from Marvel’s “Thor” films) and Sullivan Stapleton (who played the lead in 2014’s “300” sequel), the show centers on a mysterious woman who wakes up without her memory, but with a body full of tattoos that are clues connected to a massive conspiracy. With the help of the FBI, Weller, played by Sullivan, and his team uncover a new mystery with each tattoo. Having received countless positive reviews from both critics and audiences, “Blindspot” was one of NBC’s top fall shows last year. Catch up on season one before the second season of the crime drama premieres with more mystery, suspense, intrigue, action, and deception.

2. “Gotham” - Monday, Sept. 19 (8 PM, Fox)

In the third season of the popular show based on the “Batman” franchise as well as characters from the DC Comics, many of the notorious characters from the previous two seasons will return along with some iconic villains. Titled “Mad City,” the new season features Gordon as a bounty hunter chasing down “the freaks” from Hugo Strange’s lab experiments, who have taken over Gotham City after their escape six months earlier. All I can say is: Bring on the mayhem!

3. “Lucifer” - Monday, Sept. 19 (9 PM, Fox)

In spite of the mixed reviews and controversies it faces, this amazing show will grace our screens with season two in a few weeks. With the devilishly charming Lucifer Morningstar, played by Welsh actor Tom Ellis, many praise the show for the “flawless delivery from its lead” and the overall “lighthearted tone” of the show. Sure, many can argue that it’s another crime show, but “Lucifer” is so much more if you give it a chance. With the previous season, Lucifer struggled with his emerging humanity and embracing his reputation as the Devil. In the finale, the question was “Who escaped from Hell?” And with the premiere of season two, we will finally learn more and get to meet the one and only person God has tasked Lucifer with recapturing, Lucifer’s mother. I cannot wait to see what unfolds in the upcoming season!

4. “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D” - Tuesday, Sept. 20 (10 PM, ABC)

Following the events of “Captain America: Civil War,” the upcoming fourth season of the Marvel series based on characters from the Marvel Comics features Quake, played by Chloe Bennett, who has officially gone rogue and deals with the guilt of *spoiler alert* Lincoln’s death in last season’s finale. Having lost a team member in the battle with Hive sends this season into a very different direction with a new director in charge and the intriguing introduction of Ghost Rider. After a promotional teaser was released, many fans were shocked and are eagerly awaiting the new season. Showrunners have revealed that the series will feature a Ghost Rider, but not the version made popular by actor Nicolas Cage (which is to an extent disappointing.) Season four will introduce Robbie Reyes, one of the four versions of Ghost Riders in Marvel's storyline. With the team overcoming the trauma of last season, and facing a new player in town, I hope the upcoming season will exceed our expectations. Showrunners claim that this season will “unquestionably be the series' biggest” with the "most ambitious story yet." Fingers crossed!

5. “Empire” - Wednesday, Sept. 21 (9 PM, Fox)

The musical drama series, in case you don’t know, centers on the hip hop music and entertainment company, Empire Entertainment, owned by the CEO Lucious Lyon. The show follows the drama surrounding the Lyon family as Lucious ensures the survival of his music empire by putting his three sons against one another for control over the company. Meanwhile, Cookie Lyon, his ex-wife and the mother of his children, comes back into the picture after being released from prison, and she fights for her own control of the company she helped create. The series features amazing chemistry between the characters, such as Terrence Howard’s Lucious and Taraji P. Henson’s Cookie, as well as soulful vocals from Jussie Smollett who plays musician Jamal Lyon, one of my favorite characters on the show. With positive reviews from critics and audiences, the show's premiere in January of 2015 ranked as Fox's highest-rated debut in three years! With a major cliffhanger at the end of season 2, fans anxiously await the third season which will surely feature more famous musicians as guest stars in the show’s competitive world of hip hop.

With many shows to catch up on this fall season, here are 5 of my favorite shows that are finally returning this month and I highly recommend them! Mark your calendars and let the fandoms unite! There’s more to come in the next few months, but until then go binge-watch previous seasons, and watch teaser trailers for the upcoming new seasons! And maybe you’ll find a new favorite show!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
