Students love coffee, and coffee arguably loves students. Here are the top 5 coffee shops every New York City college student needs to know about. Great places to go on a Sunday to do work, meet friends, or just take some time and people watch.
Locations: Various
This is one of my favorite places for two reasons. The first is that the coffee is great, and there are tons of little snacks to choose from. The second reason this place is so great is because it is open so late for a coffee shop. It's open 7 a.m. to midnight 7 days a week! Super important when you have a paper to knock out and you need your caffeine fix.
Location: Gramercy Park
Another favorite, this place just has a really good atmosphere. They've recently renovated and added a bar to the shop, so its great for when you need your "me time." They WiFi is pretty reliable, and what makes it really cool is how great the staff is to students. Once in a while I'd get a pastry on the house!
Location: Williamsburg
If you want to add a foreign flare to your coffee, this is the place to go. Founded by two coffee fanatics from Melbourne, all the coffee is prepared the same way it would be prepared down under. The ice coffee includes ice cream, and the cappuccinos include chocolate. There are always people doing work there, so you might have to work to grab a seat, but it's always worth it!
Location: Harlem
Another location offering some culture, this Harlem coffee shop doubles as an Ethiopian cafe. The food is delicious and the owners are so nice and always around. The food in the cafe itself is also incredibly delicious, and I recommend trying the entire menu. If you've never had Ethiopian food I recommend you go here as soon as possible. They also have a really good ginger tea, so if you get sick as many people do in the winter, the amazing ginger tea is a great way to kick it in the butt.
Location: Various
When I first went here I was actually expecting this to be themed like the show Mad Men. It wasn't, but that didn't even matter because of how good the coffee was. It's in a great location for FIT students, located right near Penn Station and has a ton of table space. I recommend the espresso, but the lattes are great too.
