Cliches are everywhere. Sometimes I say them and don't even realize. But there are some common phrases that I really get annoyed by because they just aren't true. Most phrases and cliches are old and just aren't relevant anymore in society, or they are just meaningless. They don't make anyone feel better, and I think the ones in this article are the worst. Actions speak louder than words, so make everyone happy and stop saying cliches like these.
1. Good things come to those who wait.
I believe there is absolutely no truth to this statement. If you wait and let opportunities come to you, you'll miss out. No one should live life like this. Life is too short to wait on the sidelines and hope the universe gives you what you want. Anyone who is successful did not get to their position by waiting and wishing. You have to get out there, work your butt off, and then enjoy the good things you have earned.
2. You catch more flies with honey than vinegar.
Yes, you'll make more friends when you are sweet. But that will only get you so far, and soon everyone will look at you as a doormat and a pushover. I don't believe people should be mean in order to get what they want, but sometimes you have to get a little aggressive to make good things happen in life. If your too nice others will take advantage of you, but if you're too rude people won't bother to associate themselves with you.
3. Ignorance is bliss.
I sort of believed this one before, but when you really think about it, how can anyone agree? Take traveling for example. Visiting foreign countries and learning about other cultures is enlightening, being closed-off from the rest of the world is ignorant. Why would anyone think its better to not be educated about politics, good health practices, or anything else? You will live a much more blissful life if you educate yourself and seek out information through books, news, and experiences.
4. All good things must come to an end.
Life is a rollercoaster with many ups and downs. That quote is inaccurate because life will surprise you with another good event when you least expect it. It makes more sense to say, “all bad things must come to an end,” plus it’s a more uplifting reminder. If you surround yourself with good people and positivity, you'll find good things happening every day.
5. Money doesn't buy happiness.
This is so wrong it’s funny, of course, money makes you happy! We all know money and the material things that it buys isn't the most important thing in life. Memories that you make with friends and family are more valuable than anything. But, are you going to tell me donating to charity doesn't make those less fortunate extremely grateful and happy? Money definitely helps to make me happy, and when you have enough to give to others that need it, you can make them happy.
