5 Chicagoland Restaurants Your School Needs

There are many things to miss about home, but one of the things I miss most is the food. There are just some places from home that I wish were at school. Any school in the Midwest, and even further for that matter, there are bound to be a good amount of people from Chicagoland. Listed below are some restaurants some restaurants from the area that I wish were on campus.

Portillo’s

This is the most obvious inclusion, as everyone and their brother from Chicagoland loves to rave about Portillo’s. What I would do for some cheese fries and a vanilla shake right now.

Jersey Mike’sSo J-Mike’s isn’t a Chicago based company, and it hasn’t even been in Illinois for that long, but, man is it good. Yeah Jimmy John’s is good and all, but it’s nice to have freshly sliced deli meat piled high.

Potbelly

Another sandwich shop, but this one is actually Chicago based. Toasted sandwiches and giant cookies would be a welcome addition to the food options out here.

Lou Malnati’s

I’m tired of eating ‘Chicago Deep Dish’ or just plain ‘Deep Dish’ which in fact is nothing like real Chicago deep dish. Everyone knows that Lou’s has the best pizza in Chicago thanks to that famed butter crust. But heck, I would really take any true deep dish place out here.

Oberweis

I couldn’t make a list of food places and neglect dessert. In my opinion, every city should be required to have an excellent ice cream store, and Oberweis certainly fits the bill. The cookie dough ice cream is of the stuff that the gods feast on.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
