The Fourth of July is coming up quickly, and that means it is one of the busiest seasons at Deep Creek Lake. Whether you are first time vacationer or a local looking for a holiday treat, these five restaurants are sure satisfy. Try out these eateries for the taste of Deep Creek Lake.

Breakfast:

1. Deep Creek Donuts

Custom make your own donuts at this fresh new bakery. Watch as your donuts are made from dough to box and pick your own toppings, or order some crowd favorites like the savory Maple Bacon combo. Their motto is “the best donuts are the ones you create.” Deep Creek Donuts is open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily.

Brunch:

2. Trader’s Coffee House

Pastries and quiches are baked fresh daily. Hot wraps, waffles, and crepes are also popular items. The protein wrap with peanut butter, bananas, granola, and honey is a best seller. Of course fresh brewed house coffees and specialty espresso drinks help start your day and keep you going. Trader’s offers free WiFi and a relaxed environment to sit and chat over your coffee or get some work done. Open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily throughout summer months.

Lunch and Dinner:

3. Archie’s BBQ

Awarded the "Best of the Best" across America for their pulled pork, beef brisket and baby back ribs by the National Barbeque News Magazine, Archie’s offers premium meats to satisfy your hunger for a hearty meal. If you’ve got an Appalachian sized appetite, go head to head with the Mountain Man Food Challenge: one full rack of ribs, a dozen wings, an Archie's deluxe sandwich, four pieces cornbread, two sides, and one soft drink. Hours vary by day of the week. Archie’s is a casual eatery with quick service and pet-friendly outdoor dining.

4. Brenda’s Pizzeria

This New York style pizzeria offers thin crust pies along with subs, pasta, calzones, and more. Owner and operator Brenda McDonnell is a Bronx native. She and her staff pride themselves on their “friendliness and ability to cook good food for their friends.” The 26 inch Abbondanza pizza is a favorite. Gluten free options are also available. Brenda’s fills up fast on weekends, so be sure to make a reservation for large groups.

Night Life:

5. Moonshadow

If you are looking for lighter fare or something to do on a Saturday night, check out Moonshadow at its new location in McHenry. Moonshadow offers gluten free, vegan, organic options that taste great and vary by season. Ingredients are always fresh. Check out their live music schedule. There is no cover charge so arrive early for good seats and stay for a good time. The grand reopening is planned for early July.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
