It’s that time of the semester where you turn to Netflix to aid in your procrastination of perpetual homework assignments. The end of the semester is tough to get through, but here is a list of popular TV shows that were novels first.
So, if you want to keep procrastinating, read the books and then watch the shows, which are all available on Netflix instant streaming.
1. "The 100" by Kass Morgan
This post apocalyptic, scientific adventure follows Clarke and her friends as they explore earth as the first humans after their ancestors sought refuge in the sky. This thrilling adventure will keep you watching into the late hours of the night. It will also challenge you to rethink who is a friend and who is a foe to the SkyCrew. There are two available seasons to watch on Netflix and the current season airs on the CW.
2. "Pretty Little Liars" by Sara Shepard
Everyone wants to know the truth about what happened to Alison DiLaurentis when she disappeared at her friend’s slumber party three years ago. Brought together by Ali, friends Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer all have secrets about Alison and begin to get anonymous text threats. In this mystery series with romantic twists, you will be sure to keep watching to figure out who A is and what they want with these girls. And just when you think you’ve figured out who A is, guess again. There are five available seasons on Netflix and the current season airs on Freeform (formerly ABC Family).
3. "The Vampire Diaries" by L. J. Smith
This paranormal romance, popular during the vampire craze, has an addictive take on modern vampires. Following the immortal Salvatore brothers, Stefan and Damon, they fight for the affection of a human, Elena Gilbert, as she gets caught up in vampire affairs. And not to mention, her best friend Bonnie is also a supernatural being. Sink your teeth into this series because it also has an extra treat to go along with it. There is a spin off show "The Originals"that follows the original vampires that appeared in "The Vampire Diaries" in their old hometown of New Orleans. There are six available seasons on Netflix and "The Originals"have two. Both have current seasons running on the CW right after each other.
4. "Friday Night Lights" by H. G. Bissinger
Based off of a true story, "Friday Night Lights: A Town, a Team, and a Dream," this series follows the small town of Odessa, Texas and the hope of one high school football team gives it. The Panthers create a sense of community where every Friday night from September to December, everyone watches football and gives the crumbling economic town hope that dreams can come true for the community and the players. In this emotional drama, hope will push you to watch and see how one town can become a family. All five seasons are available, and sadly the show ended in 2011.
5. "Orange is the New Black" by Piper Kerman
Yes, the show everyone has been talking about. This Netflix original is based off of the memoir, "Orange is the New Black: My Year in Women’s Prison"and shows us just what life was like at the Federal Correctional Institute in Danbury, Connecticut. Meeting people of all different backgrounds, Piper takes us through the stories of these women while learning a whole new set of rules in prison. Humorous, heart-wrenching and maddening, Piper’s story will give us a very real look inside that we just can’t stop watching. There are currently three seasons available to watch.
