Erma Bombeck once said, "worry is like a rocking chair: it gives you something to do, but never gets you anywhere." We all know that feeling: worry. It's when a situation consumes your thoughts. It could be a decision that you have to make, or it could be something completely outside of your control. But it affects all of us at one time or another. No one is immune to worry and anxiety. Sometimes we just need some encouragement to get through a trial that we are worried about. So here is a list of 5 verses that can encourage even the biggest worry wart!
1. Matthew 6:34 NIV
"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
This is from Jesus's Sermon on the Mount, and what a powerful reminder. Do not worry about what is coming, because we can't change it. Remember, whatever you are going through, God's got it. Let him take all of the worry. You don't need to carry it.
2. Proverbs 3:5-6
"Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."
This is hard, I know. It can be difficult to just give everything to God. We as humans want to take control of every situation, leading to our need for worrying. But if you let Him handle it, that need for control slowly melts away.
3. Philippians 4:6-7
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
Anxiety and worry go hand in hand. With one comes the other, but through prayer we can doing anything.
4.Luke 12:28
"If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you—you of little faith!"
How often do we not trust God to take care of our issues? If he takes care of the grass in the field, why would he not take care of you?
5. Matthew 11:28
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."
There is rest for the weary and worried.
God tells us many times through the Bible that we should cast our cares on him. This is a difficult task for any Christian, especially the worry wart. But we know that God can do anything.
