Life can be an absolute struggle at times, especially when you're a college student. The feeling of waking up for a 7:30 class is not just terrible, but it's excruciatingly painful. Then there are the sleepless nights in your school library, studying for hours and hours at a time for a test that you're probably going to fail anyway. And don't even get me started about buying food as an off-campus student. When you spend $7 on Chick-fil-A every day, it literally gives new meaning to the term "broke college student."
But what's so amazing is that even in our struggles and our brokenness, God never intended for us to walk through them alone. While reading these five bible verses, I not only felt a sense of overwhelming peace, but I also felt a strong sense of security, knowing that my God is awesome and that He will never let me down.
1. "Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer." - Romans 12:12
I'm constantly learning that the key of living a life of freedom is to get into the Word daily and read about all of the promises that God has for me. Even when I am being afflicted and Satan is constantly trying to steal my joy, I know that my God is faithful and that His joy is everlasting. I know that I'm going to be alright in the end.
2. "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." - Galatians 6:9
As a child of God, I have been called to lead the lost and brokenhearted on the path of salvation by sharing the Gospel, even on a college campus. There have been times where people have slandered me and ignored what I have to say. But even in those hard times, I will never stop striving to be a person that constantly lays down their life for Jesus.
3. "Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to him." - James 1:12
Being a person that lays down their life for Jesus in a college setting can be a major challenge, but I'm not afraid of taking on that challenge. I may be only 20 years old, bur I will never be ashamed of proclaiming to people that Jesus is the one true Messiah.
4. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding." - Proverbs 3:5
This really hit home for me. As a communication studies major, I'm taking 16 hours while being a new member educator for my sorority and writing for The Odyssey at the same time. You're probably thinking that I'm at the top of my game and have my life figured out, right? Wrong. All of the things that I'm doing right now wouldn't be possible without God, and it's time for us to stop taking full credit for what He's already done and start giving all of the glory and honor over to Him.
5. "In all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your plans straight." - Proverbs 3:6
Completely trust God and surrender all of your burdens to Him, no matter if it's a failed test, a bad relationship or any other thing that you are putting before Him. Find rest in the One that restores your soul, for His yoke is easy and his burden is light.
