It's about that time again. Whether you're dreading the thought of exams and homework assignments, or you're super hype to see your besties, the next academic year is inevitably approaching. Might as well make the best of it!
1. Friends.
If nothing else, be excited to see all of the amazing friends you have made on campus. These are the friends that are going to last for a lifetime, not those typical, shallow friendships from high school. When I was in high school, I only had a few good friends, and some of them I don't even talk to anymore. When I went to college, I can honestly say I met some of the most amazing friends I will ever have. I have made lifelong buds (and quite possibly met my bridesmaids) through my classes, my sorority, and my department. Be excited to renew those relationships and make new ones, too!
2. StuDYING.
Ew. Just the thought of locking myself in the library for hours gives me anxiety. Don't get me wrong, I love learning new things, but I have to admit, I have a bad habit of procrastinating...especially with the gen. ed courses that I care nothing about. So, for those of you who share my affinity for putting things off, this usually means cramming your brain with loads of material in the library.
3. You miss Mom's food.
Ah, yes. Going away from home might mean freedom and independence, but your lack of cooking skills will humble you real quick...YOU NEED YOUR MOM. No matter how many meal swipes you've got, none of it will replace home-cooked dinners with the fam. I know that last year, I was at school for about a week when I started panicking, wondering how in the heck I was going to survive a semester without her food!
4. Opportunities
Being at college will open so many doors and opportunities for you (if you play your cards right). Maintain good, personal relationships with your professors if you can (BELIEVE IT OR NOT THEY ARE THERE TO HELP YOU). College can help lead you to internships, jobs, and so much more. It also helps you figure out what you're meant to do in life. I didn't 100% know what I wanted to do until I got to college. Once I figured that out, so many amazing opportunities opened up for me. You'll know it when you see it.
5. Getting Involved.
I cannot stress the importance of involvement enough. While it's important to study and maintain a good GPA, please don't be a book worm 24/7. It's not healthy for you. Take breaks and do things you like. Join clubs and participate in campus activities. Meet people like you and people different from you. Personally, I found my home in my sorority. Joining those girls has been one of the best things I've ever done. Find where you fit in. Find your niche. Even if Greek life isn't what you're into, be open to all kinds of involvement.
CHEERS TO A GOOD YEAR!
