Netflix has an expansive list of original series and TV shows. It’s probably difficult to choose one to watch so here’s a list of the best 5 TV shows you can start watching on your holiday break.
1. DareDevil
Set in Hell’s kitchen, Matthew Murdock (Charlie Cox) is truly a one of kind blind lawyer, who works on cases by day, but then at night, becomes a vigilante known as Daredevil. This show has truly cinematic and exciting fight scenes, and the series is more true to the comic book than the movie was. Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'onofrio) is an iconic villain that you will not expect his next move, and is an overbearing physically and mentally opponent to Daredevil. Overall, this series will have you hooked by the time you reach the end of it and next year, Season 2 comes out, featuring new characters such as Elektra and the Punisher.
2. Jessica Jones
Though still set in Hell’s Kitchen, Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) is a private investigator, who actually has the power of super strength and really getting pissed off easily. She meets an indestructible man with synthetic skin named Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and eventually team up to stop a man named Kill Grave (David Tennant), who has the power of mind control and uses it for evil. This show is just as action packed as Daredevil, but it follows a female protagonist, who is really hot headed and known for her small role on Breaking Bad. Overall, if you want to watch another show from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this is a great watch as well.
3. House of Cards
Taking place in the nation’s capital, Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) is a reputable congressman whose everlasting desire for power doesn’t stop him from doing even the evilest acts. It provides a different perspective of the Government and dives into topics and issues that are relevant in today’s society. Another interesting aspect in this show is Frank Underwood’s wife, Claire Underwood (Robin Wright) is in on all of Frank’s actions and fully supports him above other people’s interests. This show will send you on a roller coaster ride, filled with twists and turns that results in some unexpected developments with a stellar cast.
4. Orange is the New Black
Set in an all-women’s prison, Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling) is thrown into a set of events she never expected to go through ever in her life and eventually lands in prison, along with her ex-girlfriend, who was a known drug dealer and her past catches up with her. She actually ends up making friends but also very witty and dangerous enemies while in the prison, where her life is always taking a turn for the worse or better. The fact that this is one of the first series to shed light on women’s prisons and the injustices that actually happen in real life, make this a very relatable but also comedic series. Not only does it combine drama, action and humor, but it’s a great watch for anyone interested in watching multiple seasons during this holiday break.
