As all active members of Greek life know, fall recruitment is right around the corner! This is such an exciting time for actives to recruit potential new members. As for potential new members, Greek life is an opportunity you absolutely do not want to miss out on. There are many benefits of going Greek; however, there are five major advantages that I find very important.
1. Leadership
The leadership skills you will develop as being a member of Greek life are incredible. Authority and discipline are two of the main concepts of Greek life. Every member has the responsibility of being a leader and a positive example to everyone around him or her.
2. Friendship
Some people like to say that joining a fraternity or a sorority means "buying friends." This is not true. Genuine and unbreakable bonds are formed. Members learn the importance of working together and having each other’s backs no matter what. The people you meet really will seem like they are your brother or sister.
3. Connections
Connections, connections, connections, and more connections. Greek connections can help you get a job someday, maybe a solid internship, and so much more! In fact, this summer while I was at work, I witnessed a man receive a care package from his fraternity brother when he was in need of some help. It was amazing!
4. Involvement
Joining the Greek community is one of the best ways to get involved on campus. We all work together to raise money in whatever our philanthropy may be. We also volunteer with organizations that do not necessarily pertain to that particular sorority or fraternity. This allows us to meet people along the way. There are also fun events such as intramural sports, mixers, and Greek life building meetings that create a deeper involvement in campus life.
5. Grades
Along with being involved comes better grades, believe it or not! Being an active member of your campus and Greek life promotes good grades. We study together. We even have study competitions in the library during finals week.
This fall, GO GREEK. You won't regret it! Take the opportunity to branch out, meet new friends, get involved on campus, and make yourself known. Going Greek will be the best decision you'll ever make.
