5 Asian-American Beauty Gurus You Should Watch

During spring break, there's a lot of downtime. Personally, I spent a lot of time watching different YouTube channels, especially beauty gurus. Because I watched basically everything on Netflix, I decided that this break would be dedicated to brushing up on my makeup skills. I found myself watching more Asian-American Beauty gurus because they just appeal to me more and are more relatable. Here are my five favorite Asian-American beauty gurus!

1. Weylie Hoang

Weylie refers to her viewers as her "Sistas," and I think that is just the perfect way to describe our relationship! She really opens up about not just makeup, but also the things a girl would talk to her sister about. From periods to boys, she has no filter and isn't afraid to say whatever is on her mind. She also has a second channel, where she vlogs with her boyfriend.

2. Heart Defensor

Heart is a Filipino-American, which intrigued me because we have the same cultural background! Heart's channel appeals to me because of her cute editing, amazing reviews on products, and how she just seems so genuine while in front of a camera. She has the cutest pets, Junior and Barry, and is engaged to fellow YouTuber Arnold Telagaarta. Like Weylie, she has a second channel dedicated to vlogs. Also, she has a great singing voice!

3. Jen (frmheadtotoe)

Jen is just great. She's married, with a baby on the way, and gives not only beauty advice, but also keeps her subscribers up to date on her pregnancy (#PreggyPlaylist)! She also has appeared in some of the short films / videos of Asian-American YouTube channel, Wong Fu Productions. She is versatile and also gives monthly favorites, which I personally enjoy.

4. Jennaly Bounvilom

I found Jennaly from Tumblr, and she has personally been a fashion inspiration to me for many years. While she's more of a fashion guru on YouTube, she has a couple beauty and hair videos. From styling clothes to look books, Jennaly has a very unique style that can appeal to everyone. She also has a clothing line with her boyfriend, Orcino.

5. Sophia Chang (fashionista804)

Sophia is one of Weylie's best friends! She is a musical festival enthusiast and can pull off any hair color she tries. She has a very different way of editing and is not afraid of showing her natural face in front of the camera. Her vlogs are titled "Follow SoSo," and she documents her festivals in a playlist called "Festival Diary." She has many different eye shadow and highlighting makeup routines, which I really like.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
