2017 has been a year full of great comedy, intense action and thrilling drama in the movie world. Movies such as "Wonder Woman", "Logan", "Get Out", "Alien: Covenant" are some examples that have made 2017 the great year it has been. Each of these movies and many others that have come out this year has offered moviegoers an outstanding variety of options to choose from. Whatever genre it is that really moves you, this year has not disappointed in any way. The feeling I have, however, is that 2018 will provide just as amazing, if not better, movie options for moviegoers. These are my top five anticipated movies of 2018 and why I think each will definitely leave a lasting mark on the movie world.
1. "Avengers: Infinity War" (May 2018)
If you happen to be the dedicated marvel fan like I have been for the last ten years, the anticipation for this movie goes without saying. Ever since the first "Iron Man" movie came out in 2008, Marvel has been slowly building up to this movie and the wait has definitely created high expectations. The last two "Avengers" movies have seen Marvel's main heroes taking on the likes of the villains Loki, who is the adopted brother of the Avenger Thor, and Ultron a peace keeping android created by Iron Man but turns evil and causes the Avengers to destroy an entire country in the process of stopping him. Both of these villains pale in comparison to the next villain, Thanos, who will prove to be the toughest challenge the Avengers will have to face. It will be a movie that will truly live up to the hype.
2. "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" (December 2018)
Star Wars is a worldwide brand that has delivered a fantastic story and great movies since the first Star Wars film, "A New Hope", in 1977. Since then, George Lucas has given fans the other two original trilogy movies "Empire Strikes Back" and "Return Of The Jedi", which are beloved by Star Wars fans around the world. The prequel trilogy movies which describes the event that happened prior to the original, include "The Phantom Menace", "Attack Of The Clones" and "Revenge Of The Sith" are very much disliked in comparison to the original, but still performed well in theaters with all three making over 300 million in the domestic box office, regardless of the fans strongly criticizing them.
Most recently, Star Wars fans were graced with the fantastic continuation of the original trilogy with "The Force Awakens" movie in 2015. "The Force Awakens" introduced us to brand new heroine, Rey, who seems lost in the world as a scavenger who was abandoned as a young child but is a strong willed person who seems destined for a greater purpose.
Additionally, she is joined by Finn, her good friend, as well as Han Solo, Chewbacca and Princess Leia who all make a return from the original trilogy. Their biggest adversary is Kylo Renn who is an evil force user who will stop at nothing to achieve his goals. Seeing the continuation of this journey in "The Last Jedi" is something that has much anticipation behind it and will hopefully be another bright spot in the history of Star Wars.
3. "Incredibles 2" (June 2018)
As someone that was born in the late 90s, one may relate to why this movie has so much anticipation going into it from young adults and little kids alike. The first "Incredibles" movie came out in 2004 when I was six. Although I didn’t fully understand many of the quips and subliminal humor until watching the movie again later on, I was still entertained and loved "The Incredibles." As time passed hoping to hear they would make a sequel, it wasn’t until around a year and a half ago that I found out that a sequel film was finally coming after all these years of waiting. It may seem silly to believe that this movie has much anticipation going into it from anyone other than little children, but I think it is high among many people ranging from all ages.
4. "Creed 2" (unannounced release date 2018)
Seeing how fantastic the first "Creed" film was, hearing that they were planning to do a sequel came as no real shock to me. The first movie by all accounts was the beginning of this era's "Rocky" movies. Seeing Michael B. Jordan’s performance as Adonis' Creed son of the late Apollo Creed in the movie created a strong connection to the old "Rocky" films with a fresh feeling that made it seem like its own new adventure. Minimal details have been released about the sequel, but recently Sylvester Stallone confirmed Ivan Drago will make an appearance in the next film which is huge news for "Rocky" and "Creed" fans alike. Knowing that the boxer who was responsible for the death of Adonis’ father would be making an appearance raises the anticipation much more and I am greatly looking forward to seeing this movie.
5. "Deadpool 2" (June 2018)
"Deadpool" was the first movie that really opened the door for other superhero films to appeal to a more mature audience, so it's no surprise the anticipation for the second movie is very strong. "Deadpool" is a movie that can make you laugh, sad and delivers some intense action, all of which can be hard to achieve without the right circumstances. The second movie is sure to deliver and continue in its pattern of crude humor and fun action scenes. The teaser has a lot of fans already laughing and getting ready to witness Deadpool and all his glory in the next film.
