49 Shot And 53 Injured At A Gay Nightclub: When Will The Shooting End?
Huffington Post

This past weekend our nation suffered its worst mass shooting on record. Forty-nine were killed this past Sunday and another fifty-three were injured early Sunday morning while at an Orlando nightclub, ‘Pulse. ‘Clubbers were gunned down by shooter Omar Mateen who approached the night club armed with a SIG Sauer MCX[6] semi-automatic rifle and a 9mm Glock 17 handgun. Mateen fired many bullets in the club which startled and confused many at the club as they were not sure if it was actual gun shots or just fire crackers or the music as it was a nightclub, and one would not expect someone to come in with a gun shooting. His actions shattered and changed the lives of many. He was gunned down after a three hour long standoff with police. Since he is now deceased it is all speculation of if this crime was a hate crime as it was committed against the LGBT community considering it occurred at a gay night club during Gay Pride week or if was a terrorist attack as it has been reported that Mateen had ties to terrorist organization and was even on the FBI’s watch list. It is an election year, so there are several political issues entangled in this tragedy that will be disused. These issues include; Hate crimes/ intolerance of the LGBT community because the event occurred at a Gay Night Club, terrorism in the United States because of his ties to terrorist organizations, and the ever so popular political football of gun rights, as Mateen was able to purchase the gun despite being on an FBI watch list. All of these issues are important and play a role in the tragedy. While all of the above issues play a role they negate the most important issue; the ever growing violence and shootings in America. This mass shooting is while the largest on record is not the first, and is not even the first this year. There have been shootings at malls, parties, schools, clubs, and even churches – this week marks the one year anniversary of Dylan Ruff’s church shooting at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in South Carolina. It can certainly be argued that homegrown radicalization or “Radical Islam” – as some prefer to call it - caused this attack and that more needs to be done to stop the spread or terrorist ideas. It can also be argued that Mateen may have been struggling with his own sexual identity issues and decided to take it out people who decided to live their lives gay – meaning both happy and as a homosexual – and that more needs to be done to protect the LGBT community and to work harder to prevent hate crimes. Or it could be argued that gun reform is something that is desperately needed in the country and that background checks would not infringe on citizen’s second amendment rights and would prevent people who should not have guns from getting guns. All of these issues have merit and could all be argued, however spending time on these issues takes away from the biggest issue : The over whelming amount of violence and shootings that occur in this country every day that need to be addressed. The violence and shootings in this country outweigh the violence and shootings in most other countries combined do not measure the amount of shootings that occur in this single country. The violence, the shooting that is true issue that needs to be talked about and addressed. Because tragically, 49 were killed, 53 were injured several others were traumatized for life, families have been destroyed and friends lost and the worst part is this is probably not the last shooting that will occur in this country, most likely in this month alone.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
