40 Undeniable Struggles of Being the Younger Sibling
Wendy Wisner-Jennings

The relationship with an older sibling, as the younger one, is unparalleled by any other relationship. If you are a younger sibling, you will definitley remember these lessons that you learned:

1. Having to look at colleges super early because your parents don't want to make a second trip.

2. All the teachers know you before you meet them.

3. People calling you the wrong name.

4. They ate all of your favorite snack food before you could have any.

5. You only got in trouble when both of you were at fault.

6. Getting hit by your sibling.

7. Playing hide and go seek and having your sibling "forget to seek for you"

8. Getting blamed for everything.

9. People calling you ______'s younger brother/sister.

10. Being told you can do what they are doing "when your older."

11. You had Santa and the Easter Bunny ruined for you.

12. They always stole the front seat even when you called shot gun.

13. You believed everything they told you.

14. You delivered them toilet paper.

15. People calling you little ______.

16. Fighting over the front seat was like World War 3.

17. Fighting over the remote was like World War 3.

18. Your parents called you the wrong name.

19. When you say you're going to shower but they take it anyway.

20. You have to promise them your first born child in exchange for a ride.

21. "Stop hitting yourself, stop hitting yourself, stop hitting yourself."

22. Covering for them all the time.

23. Always being player 2.

24. They changed the rules of the game so you would lose.

25. They ate your Halloween candy.

26. They would jump out and scare you regularly.

27. Your parent forced them to take you along even if you didn't want to go.

28. They took your stuff without asking.

29. You had to share EVERYTHING.

30. You had to listen to their music in the car.

31. Having to wear matching Halloween costumes that they got to pick out.

32. Having to wear their hand-me-downs.

33. Having to "hug it out."

34. To embarrass you, they bring up everything you used to do.

35. Being dressed in matching outfits.

36. "Go play with your brother/sister"

37. They didn't want something until you got it, then they stole it.

38. They gave you nicknames you would never outgrow.

39. You could never get rid of them.

40. You learned you never wanted to.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
