The words back to school are often times enough to draw a groan out of even the most experienced students. We all know that regardless of how many times you've done it or how old you get, going back to school is a hard transition for everyone. Going from lazy days with no real agenda to long classes and the rigid structure of school is not exactly what most people would consider fun. However, throughout the years, here are some tips I have picked up to ensure that this back to school season is your best one yet.
1. Plan enjoyable events and activities.
Making fun plans with your friends for the future, whether it’s for the weekend after school starts or weeks from then, can be a great way to get through back to school time. Back to school means that everyone’s schedules are suddenly packed and finding a time when all your friends are free to meet up can feel impossible. Establishing a date ahead of time and finding something fun to do not only ensures that you get to spend some quality time with your friends even during such a busy time, but it also gives you something to look forward to and strive toward. It breaks up the seemingly endless school year and gives you a more immediate award for your hard work.
2. Start the year off organized.
I am far from the most organized person, but even I can see the value in getting organized before the start of a new school year. This can be anything from buying new school supplies to getting rid of old papers and binders from last year that are only cluttering up your space. As the school year progresses and you get busier, it’s inevitable that everything is going to get messier, but at least because you started out organized, it won’t be nearly as bad.
3. Meet new people.
The people you interact with and the friends you make are a huge part of making school enjoyable and interesting. So even though it’s exciting to start a new year and see all of your old friends again, don’t be afraid to talk to people you have always seen around but never really got the change to know. You might be surprised at how much fun you end up having with them.
4. Fix your sleep schedule.
During the summer you don’t have to be up at a certain time anymore and this tends to mean lots of late nights. Having to wake up early again is possibly one of the worst things about going back to school, and at least for me, it meant a week of being exhausted while I tried to fix my sleep schedule. But if you think ahead and start going to sleep even an hour early until you get back into a normal sleeping schedule that works with your class times, going back to school won’t be nearly as bad.
