Everyone has experienced feeling blue. In college, it is easy to get into a funk and feel upset and like you just don't want to get out of bed for class, much less for all of the meetings you have to attend. Being far away from home and everything that is familiar makes that feeling even worse, and sometimes it seems like you're the only one feeling this way. The good news is, there are ways to pump yourself back up and get back in the game.
1. Turn on your favorite pump-up song and have a dance party.
Great blues-busting jams include anything from Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off" to Justin Timberlake's "SexyBack." Crank up your tunes and get dancing. There is nothing quite like singing at the top of your lungs and dancing uncontrollably to pick your spirits up.
2. Call your mom/best friend from home/your favorite person.
Everybody has that special person they know can always pick them up when they're down. Instead of just texting them and hoping their "lol r u ok?" helps you feel better, give that person a call. FaceTime and Skype are also great alternatives to a text, and who knows, maybe you can even have a dance party together while video chatting.
3. Go for a walk.
Fresh air and a change of scenery are a great trick for resetting your emotions. Not only do you have some time to be alone with your thoughts in a more productive setting, you might see a cute dog out for a walk with their even cuter owner.
4. Clean your room.
While this not be as relaxing for some people as it is for others, being in a clean environment will help your thoughts be organized as well. Cleaning is very therapeutic for some people, and if you are one of them I would recommend writing a to-do list or cleaning out your closet.
Beating the blues comes in different forms for everyone, I hope you find the above suggestions helpful and hassle-free!
