So if you live in Florida then you know about hurricanes. Hurricanes are unpredictable and often times floridians don't worry about them until they get bad. This week, Hurricane Irma has been taking over every new station in Florida leaving Floridians in a state of complete craziness and uncertainty. I woke up this morning, made coffee, and watched the news for about 30 minutes with my roommates, trying to figure out what we were going to do. Here are 4 thoughts Floridians have while preparing for Hurricane Irma:

1. Where is this hurricane even going?

This is honestly the biggest question because the meterologists have absolutely no idea where this storm is going. It could come straight through Florida, it could come up either side of Florida, or it could miss Florida all together. Florida is the most unpredictable state in the United States it seems, so who knows where and how it will impact Florida. We really won't know until it is actually here.

2. Should I be panicking now? It seems like everyone else is

Waking up this morning to my mom texting me that she might take us out of state was pretty scary. I am in Fort Myers at school two hours from home, so it is a little unsettling not really having a game plan. I went to publix today for a few things and the water shelves were completely empty. It seems like Fort Myers is starting to freak out, so maybe we should give this storm some thought.

3. When are they going to tell us whether class is cancelled or not?

If you are a college student, all you want to know is whether or not you are going to have to go to class. But if you are a professor the last thing you want to do is inform your students. At my school they tend to wait until last minute to inform us, which is pretty annoying because a lot of people live far away and want to go home to their families and be safe. Being at school is the last thing I want, but we just have to wait and see what happens with this crazy storm.

4. When should I evacuate?

Apparently they are forcing Floridians to evacuate. I read a news article on Facebook that pretty much stated evacuating is going to be more work than we think. Obviously, if every person in Florida is trying to escape the storm it's going to be insane. I can't imagine staying in Florida while this hurricane is rushing through. A category 5 hurricane? No thank you, I am ready to peace out of Florida.

Being a young adult at college, with a hurricane in our path is not very fun, but it's time to make the best of the situation and do everything we can to stay sane in this craziness.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
