4 Important Points To Get You Through College

Don't beat yourself up over the little things because you're doing so much better than you think.

4 Important Points To Get You Through College

College is hard. You're taking a million classes, you get peer-pressured into going out on a Tuesday and you can't have a dog in your dorm room. Although life can feel overwhelming at times and like dropping is the only logical option, here are five reminders to keep you in touch with reality:

1. It's not the end of the world.

That exam you bombed? (shout-out to that physics exam I just failed). That boy who seemed to be nice (ish), but ended up being a douchebag who knew what to say? That feeling of I have no idea what to do with my life? Guess what. That's how every college student feels at least once (unless you're me and you feel like your life's in shambles at least once a week). It's okay to make mistakes. It's okay to feel lost. College is (unfortunately) only four years of your life! You could graduate with an engineering degree and end up as politician. Don't worry about that one exam or that one boy because at the end of the day they don't matter.

2. It's not that noticeable.

Don't worry about the little and seemingly embarrassing things that happen to you on a day to day basis. Your pimple doesn't look like Mount Everest, in fact it's non-existent. No one saw you almost fall of the treadmill and if they did they're too focused on not dying during their workout to care. People probably did see you drop your plate in the dinning hall, but do you really think they're going to spend the rest of their meal talking about that? Not a chance. No one cares that your bag isn't designer because Forever 21 is where every college student's budget is at. Learn to laugh at yourself, it keeps life fun and your sanity in check.

3. You're doing better than you think.

You could be living in a box on the side of the street or doing illegal drugs twice a day, but instead you're working you're ass off while also finding time to party. Even though that's a skill that most employers tend to overlook (I still don't know why) just remember that all your hard-work is going to pay off. College isn't about being perfect or having your shit together 24/7, it's about learning what you're passionate about, finding friends who could be your bridesmaids and figuring out who you are (don't be who you were in high school. no one likes that guy). So keep your head up and give yourself a pat on the back because you're doing great.

4. Be yourself.

College is about taking the classes you want to take, having the friends you want to have and being who you really are. Don't try to impress anyone (unless it's your future husband, in that case wear a prom dress next time you see him). Mistakes are apart of the journey of finding out who you are so don't beat yourself up when you make them-it's what you learn from them that matters. Do what feels right for you because at the end of the day the most important relationship you have is the one with yourself.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
