Being in college and living in a residence hall is quite the adventure. It is super fun to experience college life with your best friends down the hall from you. Living on campus is fun and makes college a lot better. But there are also many aspects of living in a dorm that make you miss the small things that you might've taken for granted at home. Here is a few of them.

1. Pets

There are so many moments living in a dorm where I just want to cuddle my dog. Living in a residence hall can be depressing without furry friends walking around. There are some exceptions to having a pet, but for the most part, they do not exist in a dorm. Because of this, seeing a dog walking around campus is like seeing one million dollars on the ground.

2. Candles

Yes, plug-in candles are cool too. But there is nothing out there that is better than an actual candle. But you could possibly burn the entire residence hall down, so that is probably why they don't allow them. But either way, I constantly miss the sweet aroma a candle brings.

3. Homemade Food

Going to the dining hall everyday can get super old. I am always craving those amazing home-cooked meals. I definitely take them for granted, but always miss them the second I leave to go back to school. And if you go to a school like mine, there is no choice as to if you want a meal plan or not. You must get one, so all your food money will be spent on meals that are mediocre.

4. Parents

Whether I am sick, sad, or just excited about something, I always miss my parents. Going to the doctor without your mom is terrifying, and sometimes you just need your dad to remind you that you are making somebody proud. I want to share all good and bad news with my parents, but it is sometimes hard to when living in a residence hall. Of course they are always a phone call away, but I always wish I could walk out of my room and see them, like I do at home.

Some of my best memories in college thus far have taken place in my residence hall. I am very content with living on campus, but there are many things that I truly miss about living at home. I am excited to go home for breaks to reunite with so much that I am so thankful for!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
