4 Things I've Learned Being Married To A Gamer

I have been married to a gamer for four years and it is still not easy. When they are playing games, whether it be computer or PS4, you mostly get swept to the side. I love video games as much as the next person, but not enough to devote to it 24/7. I couldn't make that commitment, but do applaud the ones that do (i.e. my spouse, Raven). She wants to get into the gaming business badly that she does YouTube and Twitch videos on her days off. Okay, without further ado, here are some things that a spouse goes through on her significant other's gaming endeavors.

1. You have to serve them when asked.

This is not the most bothersome one, but it does become a hassle. If your spouse is playing a video game and streaming it live, then they cannot abondon their station to get a drink or a bite to eat. So, you are basically their gofer for the entire time they are streaming or editing a video.

2. You cannot do too much on the internet.

I love Netflix and Amazon video, which I mostly watch on our PS4. However, if Raven is streaming, then my butt is stuck doing minimal tasks on my own computer because she needs the internet more than I do to stream. If this is happening and I am still on Netflix, then I risk getting buffered until she is done streaming. So, I have to occupy my time by reading, doing classwork, or watching a DVD. I can also sneak in a little YouTube, but try not to overdo it.

3. Modesty around the viewing area

For people who like to walk around naked, you can't do this when they are streaming because they may get booted off Twitch. I haven't done it, but accidents can happen. If you are not sure your spouse is streaming before you enter the room (the door is open most of the time in my case), then you do one or two things: Listen how he or she is talking or ask if they streaming before you go in. I usually can tell Raven is streaming by listening to what she is saying and how she is saying it.

4. Have a little fun with them.

No, not that type of fun, you little pervs. I meant, put something cute on their shoulder, like a stuffed animal. I have a stuffed Pikachu (Piki) and Pichu (Pichi) and I love to mess with Raven and the viewers with it. I would put them on her shoulders and make them dance or kiss her on the cheek. Viewers have gotten a hoot out of it and Piki and Pichi got to be on tv.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
