It's that time of the year again when we give thanks and recognize all that we have. Throughout the year with our busy schedule and hectic lives, we tend to forget how we are fortunate. Thanksgiving is a time where we can take a break from our constant hustle in life and surround ourselves with those who make us smile a little bigger and make our hearts a little fuller. Here are a few things I am thankful for this year:

1. My Family

Family has become so important to me this past year and often times I feel like I take them for granted. They do a lot for me, from cooking homemade meals to helping me calm down when I rant to them about my worries and stresses over the phone. They are my biggest support system and I don't know what I would do without them.

2. My Friends

Although family is important to me, so are my friends. Since I moved away from home I depend on my friends a lot more than I used to. With my family being hours away, I was thankful that I had a strong support system right by me. From walks in the park, hour long conversations, and movie nights, they have helped me enjoy this year. I'm thankful for their friendships and I am glad that I had the chance of meeting them this year.

3. My Health

This year has taught me that I should not take my health for granted because at any point it could be taken away from me. I think a lot of people are oblivious to the fact that some things change and there is nothing that they can do about it. I believe we should all live life to the fullest and be thankful for our health, because it is very important.

4. My Opportunities

As I've moved past high school and on my own in college, I've realized that I'm fortunate compared to others. I have the ability to go to college and to learn more about what I am interested and I've realized that some people do not get that opportunity. I am thankful that I get to go to college for something that I love and that I have the resources to do so.

Thanksgiving is usually known as the season where people get together with family and eat a lot of food, or it's forgotten and people go straight to Christmas. I believe that Thanksgiving is an important day to celebrate, because it helps keep people grounded and content with what they have.

What are you thankful for?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
