Do you remember the day that you got your Big and how exciting it was? Your New Member Coordinator thought, “Hey, here’s someone that you would get along with to help you through rushing.” There she was: your Big. To you, she was (and probably still is) a guiding hand who will love you forever. But you didn’t realize what you were to her until you yourself had what she had: a Little.
The day I met my Little was bid day. She had just received her bid, and we sat down to eat some pizza after the beginning of the bid day celebration. We started to talk and that was it! I had found the one that I would soon call my Little, and I didn't even know her yet.
The day I became a Big, I became someone to look up to. Don’t get me wrong; I have an incredible Little. She’s insanely hard working and driven to be successful. She does so much that I can’t even begin to wrap my head around it. I probably look up to her more than she does me. But when I was given the title “Big,” I became the person to lead my Little into sisterhood.
The day I became a Big, I became an immediate best friend. I mean we bonded immediately over pizza. Soon, our love for our sisters, late-night food runs, and other things showed us we had so much more in common than just a sorority. I had a new best friend and she had me.
I became someone that could be relied on and a shoulder that was always there to cry on. Not that she cries easily, but I will always drop whatever I’m doing to be there for my Little. My Big was always there for me with tissues and hugs, and even though she graduated, she still is there when I need her. My mission was and forever will be to always be there for my Little when she needs me.
When I became a Big, I became a 24/7 cheerleader. I became a support system for my Little when we were put together. When she was about to become the president of our chapter, I was sincerely proud of her and always had her back when things got shaky. I became her number one fan, and she always returned the favor.
I became all of these things and more to my Little. In return, she became all of those things back to me. She always has supported me in everything I do, has been my cheerleader, and has never failed to invite me for a late-night snack run.
I will do my best to continue to be deserving of the title “Big”, because my Little deserves the best.
