Yes, we women do have our guilty pleasures. I'm not ashamed to admit that reality television is one of them. There's no reason needed for finding enjoyment in reality TV. I mean, isn't it created for our entertainment? So why is it that women, in particular, seem to find it so interesting?
1. We love the gossip.
Girls love to hear all about what's going on. From our friends to our family, to our co-workers and classmates, a good story is a good story. People on reality TV shows always have some sort of drama going on, and with drama comes juicy gossip that needs to be spilled. We want to see the confrontations and arguments. Reality TV offers us that without us actually having to take part in it.
2. We like the reassurance.
When a girl on a reality show handles something in a similar way that a girl in real life would have, it helps reassure us that we aren't alone. Seeing that someone is going through what you are serves as a self-reflective therapy. We feel those same emotions and seeing it on TV helps us not feel so crazy or dramatic.
3. We like to admire the lifestyle.
From the cars to the shoes, the purses, hairstyles and outfits, what woman doesn't want to see all the perks that come with having an extravagant lifestyle? Some shows, like "Keeping Up With The Kardashians," give us a sneak peek into the lives of the rich and famous. Not everyone can afford a Louie V purse and a matte pink Lamborghini. We get to, in a way, live these lives through reality TV characters by watching their shows.
4. It's a good storyline.
Why else do most people watch the shows they do? Because they like the storyline. The show's concept is something that either draws you in or causes you to change the channel. Most reality TV shows have a main person or group of people it follows; and usually if the show's storyline is following someone that appeals to someone else, then they are most likely going to watch it. Who wouldn't want to watch a show about a bunch of basketball wives and their drama in Southern California?
It's simple -- reality television is enticing. You get good gossip, cute outfits and reunion specials. Not all women like drama, but a lot of us sure do love watching it.
