Smart phones are a huge part of every college student's life. We use them for communication, games, reading, listening to music, and most of all, procrastinating. They are dragged around with us 24/7, and if they could speak they'd probably yell at us for always using them and ask for a vacation. It's the truth. Since these little pieces of technology play such a big part in our every day routines, we should use them to our advantage. Below are four essential apps every college student should already have or download immediately.
1. Duolingo
Duolingo is a free language learning platform. It has you select a language, take a placement test, and then you're off! You can select how much you want to practice every day (levels range from casual to serious), and it reminds you to do your lessons if you forget. When you finish a lesson you receive points, and when you finish a skill, you receive gems that can be redeemed in the store for cool outfits for the mascot (pictured above) or other lessons on unique topics (like flirting!). This app is great for students who are currently taking a foreign language (since most colleges require it) or just for people who want to keep up with their skills. It's also great for students who are planning to study abroad and want to understand the language of their destination.
2. Shopkick
Free. Gift cards. Yes, you read that right. Free gift cards. Shopkick is the latest and greatest in "check in" apps. Except now, it automatically checks you in to stores you visit, and you get "kicks" (points) for just walking into stores! You earn more points for scanning random items in the store on your phone, and you earn even more points when you link your card to your Shopkick account (totally safe, by the way). Gift cards range from Starbucks to T.J. Maxx to whatever else you can think of. It's free, and it's more money to spend. Get it.
3. Daily Water
This one is a no-brainer. As college students who are always walking to classes across campus (especially huge campuses like UGA), drinking water regularly is essential if you want to survive. Like, literally, you will die if you do not keep chugging water. This app keeps up with your daily water intake, reminds you when to take a sip if you haven't in a while, and even gives tips for keeping your hydration up.
4. She Reads Truth
This app is more for the ladies, but it is by far my favorite one. She Reads Truth is an online community of Christ-loving women who come together and read the Bible, share their thoughts, pray, and support one another. The app includes multiple versions of the Bible, reading plans, an online forum, and a photo app to add cute filters to your Instagram photos. It's uplifting and essential for the on-the-go college girl.
