31 Tips to Survive SEMO

  1. Change your major to something that will actually benefit society, you worthless moocher. The world doesn’t need more ceramics artists.
  2. Listen to lots of motivational music to keep yourself going. I recommend The Offspring’s You’re Gonna Go Far Kid, Eminem’s Not Afraid, and Khia’s My Neck, My Back.
  3. Walking up the hills here can be hard, so ditch the shoes and stop being a pussy.
  4. You know those long lines at Starbucks? Just avoid them by doing heroin instead.
  5. That finals stress builds up quickly, so make sure everyone who tries to sell you adderall knows that you’re a KoolKid™ who doesn’t do drugs.
  6. The bookstore has some great deals. I got one of my textbooks there completely free, and all I had to do was make sure there were no witnesses!
  7. [REDACTED]
  8. Join a fraternity or sorority to ensure that you’re never held responsible for all of the shitty things you do.
  9. Don’t be black.
  10. If you encounter a grizzly bear, don’t put your head in its mouth. Research shows that grizzly-bear-related incidents are the leading cause of death for people who put their heads in grizzly bear mouths.
  11. Don’t be friends with me.
  12. Carry a bag full of hot and spicy memes, just in case.
  13. Write for The Odyssey and write articles that reference SEMO in the title. Congratulations, I’m manipulating you for personal gain.
  14. Wear all SEMO clothing. Everyone will think you’re super cool.
  15. Go to the Living at Southeast Facebook page to get all of the latest parking complaints.
  16. Don’t buy a meal plan. Chartwells killed my dad.
  17. That’s not true, it was actually cancer.
  18. Try not to get cancer.
  19. Make sure everyone around you knows that you’ve listened to Twenty One Pilots since before they were popular.
  20. Make sure you always have a sharpened pencil in case of Pikes.
  21. Live on campus. It saves money and the blessings placed on the land by the local Shaman will keep ghosts away.
  22. Don’t go to your classes. Class is for fucking nerds.
  23. Stay away from President Vargas after midnight. That’s when he sheds his human skin.
  24. You know those long lines at Panda Express? Just avoid them by doing heroin instead!
  25. Keep those dirty smokers from forcing their secondhand lung disease down your throat by smothering yourself with a pillow.
  26. Parking is scarce here, so try turning on your flashers. This grants you a secret free pass to park anywhere, including on the other students!
  27. At SEMO, the freshman fifteen is more like the freshman thirty, due to the government placing inorganic fattening mind-control agents into our food, so overcome that weight gain by already being a fat sack of shit.
  28. Go to a different school, or don’t go to school at all.
  29. Always use protection to ensure that you don’t catch the Rowdy RedHawks.
  30. Rose Theater is a great place to just end it all.
  31. Don’t cry, it’s okay.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
