31 Signs You Grew Up In Ridgefield Park

Home sweet home in The Village of Ridgefield Park. I wouldn't have it any other way, and I'm sure neither would you. Here's how you know you're from good old RP.

1. It is impossible to walk on Main St. without seeing at least one person you know.

2. Dunkin' Donuts was always your go-to place to hang after school.

3. You’ve either worked at IGA or Palermos, or you’re friends with someone that has worked in one of those places.

4. Hungry for pizza? Dante’s it is!

5. If you attended Ridgefield Park Jr-Sr High School, you probably almost died trying to get to school in the winter because the Board of Education rarely gave out snow days, even in the harshest of weather conditions.

6. The night before a snowstorm, you were always waiting for “The Call” or refreshing Facebook to see if anyone else posted about it.

7. You may never understand why a swanky place like MK Valencia Restaurant and Lounge made it’s way to the streets of Ridgefield Park.

8. Trying to get out of town? It’s either the 83 to Hackensack or the 168 to New York, NJ Transit buses.

9. Driving on Main St. during the daytime is quite similar to an elephant trying to squeeze through a narrow alleyway.

10. Ridgefield Park becomes a ghost town once the sun goes down.

11. Whether it was -5 degrees the night of the Christmas Tree lightning in front of the municipal building, you still always went to 7-Eleven after because they gave away free slurpees.

12. There’s actually only like five stable business on Main St., the rest are just stores that go in and out of business every couple months (ex: Chicken Magician, The Coffee Machine).

13. Overpeck County Park is probably the coolest place Ridgefield Park has to offer.

14. The most exciting moment in Ridgefield Park’s history was when famous rap artist and former Canadian television star, Drake, visited the CVS on Main St.

15. You probably have a very diverse group of friends.

16. Trick-or-treating on Main St. was always fun because the businesses always gave out loads of candy.

17. Before it was Starplex Cinemas, it was an AMC, and you probably used to take advantage of its lax security.

18. You probably ended up walking the Little Ferry Bridge to visit friends or go to McDonalds.

19. You may have also visited the numerous parks Ridgefield Park has to offer. So. Many. Parks.

20. You probably don’t know the name of the park by the library. Everyone just calls it “The Park by the Library.”

21. You always wanted to be in "The Patriot" newspaper.

22. The only two roads everyone seems to know are Main St. and Teaneck Road.

23. Fourth of July is the nicest day in Ridgefield Park. Everyone comes outside to watch the parade.

24. You probably used to hangout in the Ridgefield Park Public Library because there’s literally nothing else to do in this podunk village.

25. Summer was always exciting because the town pool was always open and all the summer recreation programs started.

26. Who remembers the Ridgefield Park Diner back in the day? It’s now an out-of-business failed sushi restaurant.

27. There always seemed to be a rivalry between Lincoln, Roosevelt, and Grant school students.

28. Nothing bad really ever happens in Ridgefield Park.

29. You probably often get bored because there’s hardly anything to do here.

30. No one ever seems to know about Ridgefield Park when you tell them where you’re from.

31. Deep down you love Ridgefield Park, but as for now, you’re desperate to escape this less-than two square mile village.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
