Ah, summer. Freedom from Blackboard, assignments, and professors. Warm weather. Barbecues. Netflix. Beach and pool days.

It sounds blissful, doesn't it? Unfortunately, things are rarely what we expect. Coming home for the summer is no different.

Well, here are the real thoughts of every college kid who came home for summer.

1. It's great to be home. I can't wait to be adventurous and do all these wonderful things.

2. Oh wait, I'm broke.

3. Good thing I'm working three jobs this summer, then.

4. Oh wait, all my home friends are working three jobs, too.

5. We can make this work. We'll do coffee dates and other fun things.

6. God, I'm tired. I have to cancel my plans for tonight. I need sleep.

7. Wow. I wish I had time to actually work out and not look like a potato.

8. I wish I had a potato.

9. I'm tired. Work sucks. My family is annoying.

10. I've only been home for a month?! It feels like an eternity.

11. Alright, pay day! Woohoo!

12. *Three days later* Dammit, why did I spend all of my money again? I'm back to being broke. I need to get my life together.

13. Wow, I miss my friends.

14. Everyone on Instagram looks like they're having a fantastic summer.

15. Okay, Jenny went to visit Amanda. That's cool. I wasn't invited, but like, I couldn't even go if I was. I mean, I'm working three jobs.

16. Oh. My. God. I hate work.

17. I'm tired.

18. Why is everyone having such a glamorous time this summer?! Do they not have jobs?! How did they not gain weight during finals week?! Why am I still a potato?!

19. Stop spending your paycheck on new clothes! Retail therapy is not real! Get it together!

20. Okay, my sibling is getting on my last nerve. If they take the remote or steal the bathroom from me one more time, it's going down.

21. Wow, I miss my friends.

22. Oops, there's my high school ex. Better hide and pretend that I did not see him waving at me. Abort. Abort. Abort mission.

23. Why did I agree to work three jobs again?

24. Oh, so she's why Cameron hasn't been texting me a lot recently. Huh. Better stalk her Instagram.

25. Seriously. Why do I look like a potato?

26. I swear if I spend one more paycheck on clothes I am locking myself in my own cellar. I think I have a spending problem. Honestly.

27. I wonder how so-and-so is doing. According to their Instagram they're MIA. Are they as overworked and tired as I am?

28. Better check my phone for any messages. Oh wait, it's just my mom. Asking me when I'll be home. Why do I even have a phone? Do my friends from school still like me? Or have they found someone better?

29. I'm deleting Instagram and continuing my life as a potato in peace.

30. Wow, I'm tired and I miss my friends and I hate working and I have got to stop spending my paychecks. Honestly.

Coming home for the summer can be difficult. However, it's always important to find the good in every situation. Hang out with your family, make time for your friends (no matter how much you all work), and most importantly, use this time to better yourself. Even if you are a potato.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
