30 Truly Beautiful Things

Society says that beauty is in a size zero, in a thigh gap, in skipping meals. Beauty is in being stressed out all the time, in being wealthy, in always striving for something more. Beauty is in fitting in, in doing what everyone else is doing, in having a life that follows the "right" path. Beauty was never meant to be confined to these things. Rather, beauty is in:

  1. Going somewhere you’ve never been before
  2. The way someone talks when they’re passionate about something
  3. Being able to admit when you are wrong
  4. All the differences among us
  5. Loving the specific things that make you different
  6. Laughing so hard your stomach hurts
  7. Sitting in comfortable silence with someone
  8. Failing but not being scared to try again
  9. Learning a new skill
  10. Creating a piece of art--a poem, a story, a painting, a song
  11. A random act of kindness
  12. The colors of a sunset
  13. Standing on top of a mountain
  14. Singing as loudly as you can, even if you can't sing
  15. Asking for help when you need it
  16. Experiencing a different culture
  17. Being happy with where you are and who you are
  18. Standing up for yourself
  19. Standing up for someone else
  20. Morning cups of coffee
  21. New opportunities
  22. Doing something that scares you
  23. Asking questions
  24. Talking with a friend you haven’t seen in a long time
  25. Not being afraid to dream big
  26. Pursuing those big dreams
  27. Cloudless skies
  28. The sound of the waves at the beach
  29. Making a tough decision
  30. Having a conversation with a stranger

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
