3 Things You Can Do for Christmas (As Told by a Self-Proclaimed Grinch)
Rickdrumz

This year, the holiday season has got me pretty bummed. Mostly because I was already hearing Christmas music when I went out on a quest for a sweater. One, I was wearing shorts today (The sweater is for a rapidly approaching cold snap. Thank you, Arkansas weather!). Two, it's not even Thanksgiving yet.

That doesn't mean that I don't enjoy sweaters, cocoa, and being around the fireplace. It's just that I prefer to do all that with my cat and a good book rather than raising my anxiety by hitting the stores or risking falling off of the roof as I decorate!

So if you're like me, here are some ways you can enjoy Christmas a little easier.

1. Instead of buying gifts, try doing little acts of service for your special people.

Ever since I worked in retail, I've been a little frustrated with the idea that a gift is always an object. I've gone broke in the past buying gifts (not the really well thought out kind) for as many people in my life as I could. It left me worried about making ends meet and wondering if I could have done better picking out gifts.

This year I've finally noticed that I have about a month of free time that I could be using between semesters. Why not put that time to good use by helping out my friends? After all, time is one of the most valuable things that can be given and the best part of it is that it can be used for anything.

2. Baking/cooking is good too.

Who wouldn't enjoy a plate of cookies or a homemade soup? Also, if you have containers or mixing bowls that can fit everything, it's really easy to double up!

Cooking can be relaxing, but it takes time and effort to make something. People will love it, and you might not have to fight it out at the mall!

3. If you want to be a little scary this year, party with the Krampus.

The Krampus is a legend from Germany and the surrounding areas. Instead of giving gifts he punishes children for being naughty. Originally, he was considered to be similar in appearance to Bacchus, of Greek mythology and was a forest spirit before becoming Santa's dark counterpart.

If you're not German, the great thing about this is that you can be different, scare your folks at the same time, and celebrate Dec. 5 before everything gets super busy! Have fun y'all!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
