In today's society, you frequently hear people telling one another to, "Be yourself." This statement is used a lot in ways it should not be. For example, this doesn't mean that people aren't going to judge you for being yourself. People are going to judge you if you become the president or if you choose not to be involved at all. See, if you choose to be the president, you went overboard. On the other hand, if you chose not to be involved, you're lazy and don't care about whatever the situation is. This is why we all need to be confident in our decisions and stay true to ourselves and what we believe, because we will be judged either way. These are three steps to help us all build up self confidence. Self confidence is key!
Step 1: Stay Positive.
Currently, your life could be going terrible. You just started back to school, and you let your Mother talk you into taking the advanced courses this year. You get back your first test and what's there? A big ole 'F.' You didn't make the football team this year? There are two ways to view every situation. Let's examine the pros and cons of each. The test situation- man, you were just sure you aced it. On the bright side, at least you know what to expect on the next test. The football situation- there is always next year. Work hard and never give up. Focus on the positive in your life, you will be surprised how much this changes your attitude.
Step 2: Surroundings Are A Necessity.
Surrounding yourself with people that believe in you, this is one of the important things you can do for yourself. If your friends constantly remind you that the shirt you're wearing isn't cute or that the quarterback would never go out with you, then maybe they aren't your friends. If you like your outfit, then rock it like it's never going out of style (because it won't if you keep wearing it), and if you're head over heels for the quarterback, then go get him! Surround yourself with people that believe in your abilities, and love and respect you. You are wonderful, and deserve wonderful people to back you up.
Step 3: Don't Compare Yourself To Others.
When you're walking down the hallway at school and you see the girl that everyone loves. She's beautiful, captain of the basketball team, straight 'A' student, and senior class president; and then... There's you. You may think to yourself, "What am I?" You begin to think, and to yourself, you are nothing. But to someone else, you are something. You — the person people look at because you are constantly smiling, the person who can talk to anyone without even trying. You. The way you look at someone else, is the same way somebody else is looking at you. Stop comparing yourself to other people. It doesn't matter what anyone else is doing, as long as you feel like you're doing what's good for you.
Now, let's recap. Staying positive, surrounding yourself with upbeat, helpful people and being yourself without worrying about what anyone else thinks — these are three ways to help improve your self confidence. Smile and let everyone know you believe in yourself as much as I do! God made you in the most perfect of ways, embrace it. Self confidence is key!
