3 Reasons Why Being Panhellenic Is the Best

Having friends in other houses is awesome.

3 Reasons Why Being Panhellenic Is the Best

The Greek community is something special and incredible. It’s made up of a unique group of innovative, driven and passionate people that strive to become the best versions of themselves and seek to bring out the best in others as well. It is something not everyone has the privilege to be a part of, but if you are one of the lucky ones, the network you have connected yourself to is limitless.

While the bonds you have with the women and men in your chapter are usually strongest, branching out and making friends in other chapters is the best thing you can do for yourself. It not only expands your network for your post-grad years, but makes your collegiate ones that much better.

1. Going Out Is More Exciting

Imagine walking into a party knowing virtually everyone in attendance. The level of comfort and fun escalates infinitely. When you know the other women who regular at your favorite fraternity, it makes the night so much better. Instead of feeling awkward when you walk in to a new room or feeling like you can’t go out when your sisters decide to stay in, you have an entire group of other women that you’re comfortable with and trust.

Plus, that’s more girls that have your back when the creepy guy you’ve been avoiding all night tries to hit on you. In addition to having more friends at the events you go to, it’ll also get you more invites to other places. I have been invited to numerous fraternity formals and date events because friends of mine in other chapters have set me up with their friends, and we all know how fun formals can be. The more the merrier.

2. Going to Class Is More Exciting

You know that feeling you get when you walk into class on the first day and don’t know where to sit because you don’t know anyone? Chances are, if you get to know your Greek peers, especially those in your major, you will end up knowing someone in each of your classes. I can say from personal experiences that I’ve gotten to know many other women and men from classes we have had together and from making connections through Greek life. Plus, they make great partners for group projects and understand why you absolutely cannot meet up before noon on the weekends.

3. You’ll Have Better Attendance at Your Philanthropy Events

Panhellenic women have each others backs. While socializing is a key part of Greek life, Philanthropy is one of the pillars in which our organizations were founded upon. I know that my group of friends and I make an effort to go to as many other chapters' philanthropy events as possible, and that favor is almost always returned, therefore raising more money and awareness for everyone’s causes. Plus, its always good to have other people around to confirm that you do in fact volunteer.

The Greek community brings people together. If you take advantage of not only the people in your own chapter, but in all chapters, you will have that much greater of an experience.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
