The moment I met her, I knew she would be important to me. It’s just a shame that the first day we met, I greeted her by shoving her into a swimming pool. However, I was just six years old. Little did I know, that shove was the first of many. There really are few words to describe the bond between me and my very best friend. But if I had to pick one, it would be “consistent”. So many friendships nowadays are riddled with drama and don’t seem to last very long because of it. However, she and I rise above all of that. There are a lot of factors that can ruin a bond. Whether it be other friendships, relationships, or even distance. These are the ways that she and I have managed to keep it real for thirteen years:
1. Trust:
When I tell you I would trust this girl with any aspect of my life, I mean that. When either of us are in a situation or need advice, we don’t take it anywhere else but to each other. We are completely honest with each other every step of the way. It takes a lot to look a person in the eye and tell them what you're really feeling or thinking, but with her, it's as easy as making small talk because I know she won’t have to think twice about keeping it to herself.
2. Not letting others get in our heads:
Outside friendships can cause a strain sometimes, especially when the people they are with are more toxic than arsenic. It’s super important to not let other people change the way you feel about your friendship. She and I are real quick to smack each other back into reality when either one of us is getting caught up with people we shouldn't be. When she hated the guy I was dating, it was like every day she would scream at me to wake up and smell the roses. So one day I actually did, and it made us even stronger.
3. Laughing at literally ANYTHING:
The type of laughing I'm talking about is the kind where you can’t catch your breath. She and I will drive around town and come up with the most random things to do. For example, on her break from school, we decided to go to dinner. After driving for a while screaming Twenty One Pilots songs in the car, we got there and ate as usual. After dinner, we wanted to get dessert but we didn't know where to go. We came up with the genius idea to go to the grocery and get a box of honey buns, and like 100 different candies. We were laughing so hard the whole time, people probably thought we were high. The best part is instead of actually eating a good amount of it, she drove me right home and made me take it all. Stupid? Absolutely. But that's us and I love it!
I would give this girl an organ if she needed one. I can’t imagine my life without her. For thirteen years she's been right by my side no matter what, and that is more fulfilling than any other “friend” I could make.
