Tim McGraw's Message For Every Millennial

I am truly disappointed with the lack of values instilled in modern society. As individuals, we are losing our sense of personal integrity through each challenge that transpires. We resort to excuses when opportunities pass by without contributing full effort or when we fail to hold ourselves accountable. We utter insults to those who hold opposing standards from our own instead of learning to appreciate a different perspective. We partake in unhealthy decisions due to negative influences from friends and family. We expect entitlements as a result of cultural or familial circumstances. Modern society promotes short-tempered attitudes and ungrateful hearts through the rise of technology. Ultimately, Millennials lack the basic sense of value and morals that shaped each previous individual.

Tim McGraw’s “Humble and Kind” illustrates the ideal values each individual should strive to embody. Despite the temptations of modern culture, this song describes the constant presence of parents toward their children. Many individuals can relate to arriving home from a fight in a relationship or a testing day at school, nevertheless, your parents were always by your side urging you to continue the good fight. They refuse excuses and accept nothing less than your complete effort in order to achieve your ambitions. Your parents can be your toughest critics, however, their foremost desire is that you enjoy what you do with infinite love for others.

“Humble and Kind” explains the importance of personal perseverance. Each person has their own cross to bear and stress to overcome, nonetheless, we must remain understanding and respectful to those who face frightening realities each day, such as financial instability, divorce or even domestic abuse. When life attempts to dominate your better judgment, take a step back from your trivial challenges with a more appreciative perspective. Ultimately, your dreams come true through tireless hours of sacrifice and numerous failures. In order to experience true happiness, we must devote ourselves to what we enjoy while working in harmony with others.

“Humble and Kind” has instilled numerous values in my own life. I’ve been reminded to always behave politely through my daily encounters: Hold the door for those behind you. Say please and thank you when offered something. Don’t steal, cheat, or lie for personal gain. As you confront the pressures of daily life, don’t expect a free ride from anyone or hold a grudge or chip on your shoulder. Bitterness and selfishness will only keep you from reaching your full potential instead of enabling you to become the best version of yourself. Unfortunately, most people believe that only great power can subdue such ignorance. However, I believe it is the small things. Everyday deeds of ordinary individuals that contain cultural temptations. Take a walk. Go fishing at the cottage. Watch a family movie. Read a good book. Share a hug. Society teaches us to be afraid of what we don’t understand, however, through simple acts of kindness and love, we can find the greatest courage.

“Humble and Kind” is one of the most beautifully written songs in a truly selfish culture. Modern society continues to dictate the standard of values for countless individuals. With such an unhealthy regard for sex, money, power and fame, too many people, especially Millennials, have lost the realization of the most important aspects of life. As individuals living in such troubling times, we all wish certain things never happen. Instead of complaining about the inevitable obstacles in our lives, we must choose to appreciate the time and people that are given to us. We are all meant certain things and that is a truly encouraging thought. Tim McGraw’s beautiful song brings tears to my eyes each time I listen. I encourage each individual struggling with their own obstacles to put their trust in God and always stay humble and kind.

Special thanks to Erin Brauer for sharing this beautiful song with me. Love you!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
