Summer is here! Fun in the sun, no school for most people, barbecues and quality family time. It's the perfect season to be out and about and what's one of the best ways to spend time with family? Why, road trips, of course!

Road trips can be long and boring, and everyone wants to get to where they're going. Generally, one of the ways to pass the time is when everyone plays games while on the way. Games are great because they keep everyone communicating and preoccupied which makes the trip feel quicker. Here's a list of three great games to play in the car!

3. I Spy

I Spy is an old but classic game, it's also one of the most basic games in existence. Starting from a very young age, kids are able to play, and no matter their age, it can be enjoyable. I Spy seems a little kiddish, but it can lead to scavenger hunts in the car, which are almost always fun.

The directions for I Spy are very easy: One person spies something and recites "I spy with my little eye something..." and then says the clue. An example is "I spy with my little eye something green." After the clue is given, everyone participating must try and guess the mystery item.

2. The License Plate Game

The License Plate game is another classic game, and it can be played by people of any age. The objective of this game is as simple as I Spy. Players must search the license plates and find all 50 states. When learning geography, this game can be super helpful. Some versions of the game will have players actually studying a map and writing down which states they've seen so far. The map helps players learn where the states are and to see how far each car came from.

Today, there is an easier form of this game which is printable and allows kids to cross out states as they locate them. I think the traditional version of this game is far more fun, but each version keeps people entertained for hours and no matter the version it's still super easy for everyone to play together.

1. Trivia

The last game is not a traditional car game but it's a lot of fun and can appeal to all ages. Trivia is fun because there's so many different topics a family can ask each other questions about. Everyone has different interests, so everyone knows different things. For example, one of the biggest topics my dad and I do are movies because we're both huge movie buffs. There are movies my dad might know more than me because they might be older movies that he grew up with whereas there might be some newer movies I know better than him. This is true for any topic, and it's exciting to see what you might know as opposed to someone else, especially since it's trivial things people might not realize they know.

Road trip games are great ways to pass time, especially when everything you pass looks the same! Games keep players engaged and interacting which is important in itself. Not to mention it's just a lot of fun to get competitive with people you're close with! A little friendly competition is important in every relationship.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
