My 3 Favorite Things At Ball State University

Ball State University is an absolutely stunning campus with so many brick buildings that look so sharp. As I walk from the parking lot to class every day I begin to ponder what my favorite things about this campus are and what I have loved to do here.

1. The Rec Center

The Rec has been my second home for 3 years now and it has not failed me yet. The freedom of just being able to have fun and compete against others is one of the best things school has offered me. Coming from a life full of sports and competition the rec center has allowed me to destress during the long semester and let me have fun. I have played all new sports as well such as wallyball and racquetball, which my hand-eye coordination has not failed me in baseball. But during finals week my first two years my friends and I made it a promise to visit the courts at least once and take out stress from school. Playing basketball two to three times a week has also brought me many new friends as well, two of whom I currently live with now.

2. The Residence Halls

Ball State's will always hold a special place in my heart, and you may be thinking why would someone love community showers? The answer is, it is the community and the bond you build with the people on your floor and in your building. I was so fortunate to have known a couple people before moving in but the friends I made are ones that I know I will have for a lifetime. The 2nd floor of LaFollette will always be my favorite floor I have ever lived on. In fact, my friends lived in another wing so whenever I wanted to stay the night with my friends I would sleep on the floor. My second year on campus was spent in Kinghorn Hall and it was another wonderful year and I met even more friends and strengthened the bond I had with my friends.

3. Woodworth & The Atrium

The final place that I loved the most was a toss up between my two favorite eateries. Some people might insert the library here and say that they loved the quiet time to study and focus on school work but mine is eating. The food selection at either one of these on-campus places was far better than the dorm stores. I spent many a dinner meal swipes in these two places whether it was pizza or stir fry I loved eating there.

Ball State has given me some of my greatest memories of my life so far and I would change it for the world. Choosing to come here was one of the hardest decisions I had to make because I wanted to pursue baseball in college. But my friends and the food are things that will always carry on with me, the memories will forever be engrained in the wonderfully overlooked town of Muncie Indiana.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
