The week before Spring Break I asked my classmates what they were doing during the break. Each answer was similar: Miami Beach, Virginia Beach, Cancun, or Daytona. While all these places are sand-filled fun with beautiful weather, there are some people who just don't like the beach.

Here are three alternative adventures one can have for Spring Break that doesn't include sand or tanning lotion.

1. New York City, New York

This warm destination has everything from beaches to trails, and there are plenty of free things to do that doesn't include eating. Check out Lady Bird Lake where you can hike, walk, bike, swim or canoe for free. Or spend the evening watching the water light show at Butler Park. No matter what you do, for those of you who are not fans of the beach, Austin has some great sites.

3. Washington D.C

While the capitol has much to offer in history, museums, and food, there are hidden gems for many spring breakers to find. For those who despise the beach but love the seafood, check out Maine Avenue Fish Market for some fresh finds before relaxing on the waterfront. If you are more into scenic history but want to stay away from the crowds, try the Hillwood Estate or Lincoln's Cottage.

If you prefer the city over the ocean or are just tired of the same old Spring Break destination, then try out these cities! You will still have an amazing trip, while doing something a little bit different.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
