27 Common Characteristics of Middle Kids

1. You're the resident peacemaker of the family. While your siblings argue, you get the all-around fabulous job of playing referee and making sure no one kills each other.

2. You tend to be neither a leader nor a follower in team activities; you're more like a sidekick. You like to support, encourage, keep up morale, and get the job done with no hiccups.

3. You trust people without question. You trust those who trust you, and since that's nearly everybody, you have numerous confidants.

4. You sometimes feel neglected, but that has made you more independent. Since your parents give most of their attention to your guinea pig older sibling, and do most of the spoiling on the youngest, you sometimes fall by the wayside.

5. Your siblings often dislike your middle-ground mentality. Your older sib is way too uptight and your younger one is psychotically carefree.

6. You are very empathetic, so your family often talks to you about their problems because you're good at seeing both sides of the equation.

7. You care less about conventional success and more about doing what you love. This is why many middle kids end up as teachers, non-profit entrepreneurs, camp counselors, or following some other random passion that lands you with no money but a big heart.

8. You can manipulate almost anyone. When you get in trouble, you're an expert at redirecting blame or using psychological techniques to make your parents sympathize with you.

9. You're adventurous, and willing to try almost anything. You never liked living in your older sib's shadow, or doing things that look like you're copying the younger guy, so instead you enjoy pursuing obscure activities that your siblings would never have thought of.

10. Your parents trust you the most, because you're not the first child and you're not the crazy last one. You got your license before your older sister, and you stayed home at a younger age than your younger brother.

11. You're usually the most justice-oriented member of your family, since you tend to feel duped by all the attention your siblings get. You're the most likely to give everyone the appropriate amount of work in group projects, the same amount of Christmas gifts, and hug every family member before you leave a gathering instead of just your favorites.

12. You're disgusted by people with huge egos. Middle kids have a very realistic sense of accomplishment, so they can see right through your facade of impractical confidence.

13. You're the resident optimist. Since you tend to lean towards cooperation, positivity, and harmony in your environment, you don't appreciate people who only see the worst in everything.

14. You dislike conflict so much that you tend to internalize most of your frustration because you don't see a point in letting it out and starting something up.

15. And because of that, your more heated emotions tend to leak into unlikely situations. For example, you sometimes start yelling at someone for taking a long shower, or cry when you drop a pen.

16. You like traditions, much for the same reason that you like justice. It gives a definite bottom line and a marker of time, authority, or maturity.

17. You love being around people, as long as they're people you get along with.

18. Others look to you to be the leader, even though you usually prefer not to be. You know how to negotiate, direct, persuade, and subdue so well that you're a natural alpha. In fact, over half of our country's presidents were middle kids.

19. You are extremely passive aggressive. You never want to have an actual argument, but you despise when people get away with wrongdoing. To compromise, you'll use sarcasm and your flawless wit to make the other person want to crawl into a hole.

20. You can guilt-trip like no one you've ever met. That's because you're so susceptible to being guilt-tripped yourself.

21. You are never bored. Your older sibs got to do all the fun "new parent" activities, and your younger sibs got everything they wanted just to give your parents some alone time. You, on the other hand, had to learn to entertain yourself, which is both a good and bad thing.

22. Because of that, you probably have a lot of random talents, such as weaving potholders, extreme friendship bracelet-making, overextending various joints, or trivia.

23. You're great with kids, even if you hate them. You've grown up around kids, and been that obnoxious younger sibling. You know how to relate and how to have fun with those who look up to you.

24. Typically, you are well-liked. You get that being an older sibling is a lot of responsibility, but you get that being a younger sibling is hard with expectations to live up to. You're super relatable and easy to talk to.

25. You look at setbacks as obstacles, not roadblocks. You're more driven and determined to succeed, even if it's simply to outshine your older sibling. Ha.

26. Almost every clothing item you own is a hand-me-down. So is your mattress. And that chair in your room. And your dog. Basically everything.

27. Despite how much you get ignored, you still think you're the coolest. And you're right.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
