I Asked 27 People What They Love Most About Themselves And This Is What They Said

Talking about yourself can be a little awkward, so I forced everyone to try it.

I have a professor who LOVES to talk about herself.

She tells us about her kids and her speeding tickets and the movies she went and saw over the weekend. On the first day of class, she spent a solid 45 minutes telling us every minuscule detail of her personality. She then turned and asked all of us to share one personal detail with the class.

We've all been here.

You have to come up with something on the spot like your favorite color or what you're majoring in. People rarely take this time tell the class that they're really good at painting or that they have the bluest eyes you've ever seen.

Talking about yourself is awkward. We're so worried about sounding narcissistic that we talk about ourselves in the most self-deprecating way possible.

I decided to ask 35 young adults (17-23) what they liked the most about themselves. I didn't specify whether they should talk about their personality or the way that they look. Almost everyone I asked felt incredibly awkward. They laughed, tried to talk their way out of the question, or just turned really really red.

"I don't know I guess I make people laugh a lot" (Male, 22)

"Physically I like my eyes because they make me feel powerful and important. When guys compliment my eyes I feel respected. I've really started to love my self-respect too because at the end of the day I will always have myself" (Female, 17)

"Ok so my favorite thing about myself is loyalty. I'm very loyal to my friends through thick and thin. I think everyone needs a close and loyal friend so I'm happy to be there for the people I love" (Male, 19)

"My lips, definitely" (Female, 21)"I like being tall, I feel like it's trendy right now to be tall and thin" (Female, 18)

"I'm always down for an adventure, I think people like that about me" (Male, 18)

"I like to be creative and think of new things... but physically I don't know" (Female, 20)

"I have a passion for everything I do and I know it'll get me really far in life" (Male, 23)

"I have a cute nose, I'm really proud of that" (Female, 22)

"I'm really into fitness lately so probably my body, I know it sounds douchey but I'm fine with it" (Male, 19)

"I would say I love my ability to bounce back. No matter what the situation is that I'm facing, I'm always able to make a fast turn around and get back on my feet" (Female)

"I love my ability to focus when I need to and really get things done" (Male, 20)

"I guess I would say my hair, I haven't cut it in years."(Female, 21) (Her hair was incredible)

"I like that I never let the opinions of others get to me. I'm my own dude" (Male, 19)

"My eyes. I know brown eyes are a little basic but I think they look mysterious" (Female, 17)

"I love my smile. I have super deep dimples and it really lights up a room. People have told me it gets them through the day" (Female, 20)

"I love my creativity! I like that I can create something all by myself that people are able to enjoy." (Female, 20)

"I'm always there to make my friends laugh" (Male, 22)

"I give really good advice which is awesome. My friends all know that I'll have their back and help them with anything." (Male, 18)

"I love everything about myself" (Female, 23) (This response made me so happy)

"I have a big heart and always put others ahead of myself" (Female, 20)

"I love my butt honestly" (Female, 18)

"I was always insecure about the gap in my teeth growing up. I had braces for a while but I never wore my retainer. The gap came back and to be honest I've fallen in love with it." (Male, 23)

"My favorite thing about myself is that I never take things too seriously" (Female, 17)

"I have thick skin and I love it." (Male, 19)

"My eyes, they change colors depending on what I wear!" (Female, 23)

"I love that I am passionate about my career path. I want to be a plastic surgeon to help children with facial deformities. I've always just wanted to help people." (Male 21)

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
