Every week, I sit down in front of my laptop to write an article for Odyssey. Sometimes, I am super inspired and I have been planning out an article for a full week in advance. Most of the time, I sit in front of my laptop banging my head against the keys hoping something literate and beautiful comes out of it; I haven't had much success. Either way, here are 26 thoughts that go through my head each and every week.

1. I literally have no idea what I am going to write about.

2. Maybe Twitter has something trending that will inspire me.

Twitter was not helpful.

3. Maybe I can Google popular article topics.

4. I have failed as a writer.

5. How can anybody write an article every single week?

Fellow Odyssey writers, you feel me?

6. Wow, my life is so boring.

7. I should get out more.

If I did things I would have something to write about, right?

8. I'm hungry.

9. That object over there looks fun...

10. There's like 100 other things I need to do today.

This article falls somewhere near the bottom.

11. I have no talent.

12. I have no hobbies.

I could take up knitting or hiking... and then write about it.

13. I should travel more.

Or not.

14. I will never finish this article.

15. Do I have to write an article this week?

16. Maybe Facebook would help...

17. If I watch a movie, I could write a review.

..but then I would have to watch a movie and write a review.

18. I can always do this tomorrow.

19. Inspiration has to hit me eventually.

20. Please send help.

*Actual portrayal of me right now*

21. Why do I do this to myself?

22. I'm gonna quit, I can't do it.

23. Nobody really reads these anyways.

24. I wonder how many grammatical errors I will make this week?

The answer: too many.

25. Next week's article will be better.

26. I still love writing.

At the end of the day, I get an article written that I am proud of and can attach my name to. No matter how difficult it is, no matter how many times I contemplate quitting, no matter how uninspired I feel week to week, I still love writing.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
