Goodbye Letter To Odyssey
The Odyssey

To Odyssey,

Let me start out by saying that it's not you, it's me. I know that sounds totally cliche, but it's true: it's not your fault. I loved being one of the many writers under your influence and you have taught me so much; however, I am afraid this is goodbye. I just can't write for you anymore.*

I'm afraid I don't have the time to take a few minutes out of one day a week to write for you. Between showering, eating, drinking, breathing, and binging shows on Netflix, 10 minutes to spare for an article is nearly impossible to spare. Especially if the article for the week were to be about something that happened in the news or politics, as then the article may take me 20 minutes to write. I'm pretty sure climbing Mount Everest would be easier.

Aside from the huge time commitment you need and deserve, there's absolutely nothing to write about anymore. Literally, every topic on the face of the planet Earth has been covered, from news to open letters. There's just no such thing as original content, and I am not one to plagiarize. As much as I have tried, there is no way to put my own original twist or thoughts into an idea to create a well written and intellectual sounding article.

As this is the 21st century, everyone seems to have their own opinion on everything. Another reason I can't write for you is that I'm too afraid of offending someone. I don't want to step on any toes or have someone possess the smallest amount of dislike towards me. People can't think I don't agree with them, right? That's just wrong. This is 2016, or better known as a cookie cutter society. Every individual should be the exact same and view all things in the same way, or else someone might be offended. I couldn't live with myself if I submitted an article for you and someone didn't like it. It would keep me up at night and slowly drive me into madness.

So, Odyssey, this is goodbye. Thank you for the laughs, the memories, the fun, and the experience. Maybe one day, our paths will meet again and we can give this another shot. I promise, like I said -- it's not you, it's me.

Sincerely,

Former writer, Julianna Reynolds.

Hello -- ever heard of sarcasm? Odyssey is a wonderful writing platform that I am so lucky to be part of. My team of fellow writers from my University and our editors are killer, and we work hard to put out new articles every week with new and incredible content. If you're one of those people who say you can't write for Odyssey because it's "too hard" or "too time consuming," then you're a person who is, frankly, wrong. Sparing 10 minutes a week, maybe 20, to submit an article is not rocket science.

P.S. If you haven't figured it out already, I'm not quitting. I'm here to stay, fellow readers.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
