25 Ways To Get Into The Christmas Spirit

I don't know about you, but my thoughts about wearing shorts in December is that is should be illegal. This year, probably like many of you, I haven't been able to get into the Christmas spirit because it simply just doesn't feel in place. So, what can we do to make it feel a little more like Christmas?

1. Refuse to conform to the temperature. I don't care if its 100 degrees on Christmas day. I will be wearing jeans, boots, a sweater and a parka. I refuse to pretend that it is anything less than 35 degrees and snowing outside.

2. Light Yankee Candles. Angels Wings. Bundle Up. Gingerbread Maple. Sparkling Balsam. Winter Glow.

3. Christmas jammies.

4. Pentatonix Christmas album. Or Justin Bieber. Or Mariah Carey.

5. Get a real Christmas tree. Take a saw, chop it down, take it home, and struggle to make it stand up perfectly.

6. Have a fire in your fireplace at night. Even if it was really hot outside during the day, while its dark outside, pretend for a second that there is snow.

7. Christmas cookies. Icing, sprinkles, Hershey kisses.

8. Christmas movies. Christmas With the Kranks, Christmas Vacation, Polar Express, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Elf, Home Alone, The Santa Clause, Charlie Brown Christmas.

9. Christmas cards. Make the cutest, festive Christmas cards to send to dear friends and family.

10. Give to the Salvation Army. We all know that little bell that sounds as we enter into the grocery store. Just accept that it is once a year and give a little.

11. Fuzzy socks.

12. Visit Santa. It doesn't matter how old you are. Always go see Santa.

13. Go ice skating.

14. Visit houses with pretty lights.

15. Make gingerbread houses.

16. Drink lots of hot chocolate. With marshmallows.

17. Find the tackiest Christmas sweaters. You can never own enough, they will come in handy I promise.

18. Watch all of those old Christmas morning videos that your parents took. You remember them. With bed head and eye boogers. They'll make you laugh.

19. Watch a Christmas parade.

20. Make paper snowflakes.

21. Wrap presents.

22. Make holiday ornaments. A good collection will eventually add up and the memories will be priceless.

23. Camp out in front of the Christmas tree. Don't sleep too close to the fire place though, or else Santa might not make it in

24. Go to a Christmas eve service. Watch the cute kids act out the Christmas pageant or candle-lit service.

25. Treat yo'self.

Enjoy this holiday, and remember that even though it might now feel like Christmas, there are plenty of festivites to bring you into the Christmas spirit.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
