25 Signs You Went To Archbishop Wood

Have you ever experienced a little bit of something, and you knew you wanted more of it? Well, that’s what I remember feeling like after my first open house at Archbishop Wood. The energetic atmosphere in the halls, the humor of the faculty, and the warmth of the students was unlike anything I had come across before. As a sophomore in college now, it's still hard for me to come across anything that quite compares to it. During the four years after that open house, Wood truly became a home away from home for me. The sum of the experiences I had and the lifelong friends that I made there truly molded me into who I am today. For that, I couldn’t be more grateful. With that being said, this article is filled with 25 signs that are dedicated to all of the Vikings out there. I wish you all the best wherever you may be!

  1. You have received days off from school for no other reason than one of your sports teams winning.
  2. “It’s gonna be a J-Bell today” were your favorite words to hear in the mornings.
  3. Nike socks were a staple of your uniform considering you always had practice right after school.
  4. “Pork chop pork chop, greasy greasy. We’re gonna beat you, easy easy” is your favorite football cheer.
  5. The only lines of the alma mater that you know are “…HAIL THE BLACK GREEN AND GOLD OF ARCHBISHOP WOOD.”
  6. You tried to always do well in Iggy’s class because you never wanted to disappoint him.
  7. St. Francis retreat house is still one of your favorite places on Earth.
  8. Perkins, The Eagle Diner, and Warminster West were your go-to places to eat after school events or half days.
  9. You never had an official dress down day but you never felt like you wore a uniform.
  10. The bus trips you spent with your high school-teammates accounted for a majority of your inside-jokes with them today.
  11. You can recall the feeling when you read your roster in August, and realized how many times you had to go from one third floor to the other.
  12. You missed hearing, “What’s Good Wood” on the announcements after Eric White graduated.
  13. Your prom was in the same ballroom that Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper danced on in Silver Linings Playbook.
  14. You remember the struggle of waiting in the wrap line during lunch.
  15. You still remember Joe Sette telling you to sign up right away for the buses to Hershey (Mondee, Tuesdee, Wednesdee, Thursdee, Fridee, Saturdee, and Sundee).
  16. You dreaded when “Mr. Bookhead Man” spoke on the announcements.
  17. You still find yourself debating with people who went to other high-schools over the correct pronunciation of “Kairos.”
  18. You don’t remember a nun that wasn’t shorter than you.
  19. You can distinctly remember the sound of Gary Zimmaro saying, “Good Evening Vikings” on your answering machine.
  20. A majority of your graduating class ending up going to either Temple, LaSalle, or Penn State.
  21. If you were in the Performing Arts, you remember the dance parties backstage and the cheers together before every show with the people who you now consider family.
  22. You feel like you understand the heat of the Sahara desert because you experienced un-airconditioned hallways and classrooms on a whole new level.
  23. Viking Night was the most anticipated event of your school year.
  24. You remember thinking to yourself, “I wonder how many times Mrs. Harkins will say ‘Faithfulness Merits the Crown’” right before she would give a speech.
  25. You can recall the moment when you faced the horrible truth that you had to graduate. (However, you also remembered that you were coming back for Ms. Blastic’s Christmas party the next year, which took some of the sting away).

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
